when i do 4.5 on my 8320 I need 1.425v, my highest temp I saw at those volts were the same temps (65c) after the 15min mark where prime starts to really heat up and your saying your getting those temps with with 1.3v, I don't go above 55c with 1.3 after prime heats up after 15min.
I also have a coolmaster TX-3 (yes I know, I need a new cooler) so your temps should be lower then mine, honestly by quite I bit I would think unless your chip just runs hotter then others, my 965be used to run hot but would still run fine.

also hows your case airflow, having no way of getting the hot air out would let your temps rise quickly once the case is filled.

Well thats my concern. It is really high temps for just 1.3v... Thats why I wonder how much further I can push it with a better cooler. There is NO doubt this particular chip runs hot! But it seems its a great overclocker aswell.. Question is how far can I get it with better cooling, when temps are this high with the Antec 620... Refrence: My Phenom II @4.2Ghz 1.53v was sitting at 57C with the same cooler..

My case airflow is meh.. But temps rise even with the sides off..

depends on your use I guess, and if the heat/voltage is worth the performance gain, sometimes it not even worth it.

I know the "safe" temp has been 62c for most amd cpus, but I know others push it up to 70c and havent had problems, while others will get error when they go over 60c, gotta love the silicon lottery
also take into consideration prime gets your cpu hotter then just about any game/program out there except for a handful, so 99% of the time your cpu won't get as hot as it does in prime.

55c is my max after a few hours of bf4 when I'd get 65c in prime in under 30min.

Temps are mid 50s running Bf4 and other demanding games. I have never seen it hit 60+ other than prime.

You should up your LLC so you don't have to set your VCORE so high, and can instead set it closer to 1.308.

ofcourse your cpu is gonna heat up even under water cooling, when running stress tests. Those tests are designed to do that. Normal, everyday gaming isnt going to push it that hard what 5 mins do in Prime.

What MOBO are you using, if its Asus mabey you can fix some bios settings, I can help with that. You should be able to reach higher, depends tho on the setup.

Ok guys... I feel like a total idiot now.. Still getting used to the uefi-bios of the Sabertooth mb.

*cough* Cpu/nb-voltage was set at 1.4v... *cough*

Lowered it to 1.2v and BAM(!), prime max temp after 1hour was 55C.

So I am @4.6Ghz prime stable (60C max after 3hours) at 1.320v. So now I'm going to upgrade the cooler and the case and see if I can reach/pass 5Ghz:)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Much appreciated;)

glad that was solved.

you have a pretty good chip, right now I do 4.5 on 1.464v and under load its 1.416v, my board has 0.05v drop, and that's the best it gets with my board @.@ not hard to compensate for though.
I could go higher if I had the cooling. but even so, 4.5 on 8 cores is more then enough for my needs haha.

hello,
I have read on the corsair forum that the radiator likes to be mounted in the front of the case, not the rear, so if it can reach then front mount it. the rear mounting slows the airflow even with faster fans.
