Does any cheapo HDMI cable suffice ?

Thread Starter
I need some HDMI cables and wondering about cheap thin cables vs. the thicker ones with extra shielding. I've used the thicker ones in the past and they are a little harder to work with than the thinner cables and heavier too. Thicker ones often say to defend against interference. I've used thin ones before and never had a problem well as far as I could tell. Any specs I should pay attention too ? This question concerns hooking up my PC to a HDTV and also for my living room entertainment center TV/DVR/BD/player.

No difference in performance/image quality. The only thing I'd look out for is build quality; I've had some dirt-cheap HDMI cables start fraying or falling apart after like two uses.

Any HDMI cable will do. It's not like VGA where the signal is analog and a more expensive cable shows better stuff on the screen.

Reminds me of that scene in Mass Effect 2 where you ask the Salarian shopkeeper as to his purpose in the store as purchases are done through the terminal to his side and not through him:

"Customer Service. Sweeping up the store. Carefully explaining things to the technologically illiterate. It’s stunning how many people think light moves faster through expensive fibre optic cables than it does through cheap ones"

Though I would recommend getting a tilt/swivel-head one. It really helps push the monitor closer to the wall as a 90 degree bend is more shallow than a cable sticking right out the back of the screen. Plus you can point the head anywhere so the strain on the connection is minimal

(^ A gold plated HDMI cable that tilts/swivels)

That gold-plated one just looks awesome, tilts and swivels and would set you back by only 10 bucks; couldn't pay much less than that for any other tilt/swivel head and this one's all gold and shiny smile.gif
