Hopefully with the Scythe/Nidec partnership coming to an end, someone else will partner up with them and start mass producing the AP-45s.

Nidec Servo makes them actually, all Scythe did was buy thousands of them at a time and redistribute them. Nidec Servo already stated they had no intention of ceasing production of the [Gentle Typhoon] series fans, so we should see either Nidec Servo taking over distribution or another company taking over for Scythe. I can find the exact statement from Nidec about it if you want, but i don't think it's necessary.

Right, I knew that. But nobody knows if Nidec will just forget the middleman and sell them to the end user(us watercoolers) directly or go through a distributor, like Scythe. The reason we were able to get the AP-45s is because we met a minimum order quantity. If stores like FCPU and PPCs were smart, they'd buy AP-15s and AP-45s in bulk directly from Nidec and sell just sell the fans themselves. We only paid $11-$13 per fan, depending on if we wanted them with pins an plug already attached. I'm sure the higher the colume, the lower the individual price. Even if they did get them for $13 and sell them for $15, which is still cheaper than being sold under the Scythe brand, that's a $2000 profit.

If they bought them for $13 they'd sell them for around $25. Generally retail is twice the direct buy cost. Scythe bought thousands of them at a time, which is why they were able to keep the prices low. The higher the quantity the low the price, basic supply and demand.
