Demons souls didn't shove its story in your face. Simple set up: evil fog has come, you can fix it by entering these portals and killing everything. Dark Souls: You wake up dead in prison and get carried away by a giant bird to do... Something. I still don't know what the overall goal is in this game.

Did you beat the game (dark souls)?

The souls series in my opinion is the greatest series of video games ever created. I might sound like a fan boy but im not alone in this, it's critically acclaimed all over the world for its unique substance.

I have play Demons Souls/Dark souls 1 countless times through, i'm also about 30 hours into DS2, it's no doubt a fantastic game. It has many improvements over the first 2.

People who can't appreciated the Souls games just have different taste in games, some people like games that hold your hand with lots of cut scenes and spoon feed you every step of the way.

If you pass up on DS2 i'm afraid you will be missing yet another one of the best games this generation will see.

^- The critical acclaim is a reason ive not picked up any of them yet... "Hype Backlash" is the trope, Unfortunately most of the time I get out of it, and even if it was legitimately good i just end up disappointed at the end because everyone else hyped it up too much..

But I have thought of getting DS2.. Just to see what the fuss is about

By buying into the hype of games you're only setting yourself up to fail.

Look at the reasons people like dark souls and then decide if you like those things in a game.

Do you like a real challenge? and to figure things out yourself? maybe not?

Its a rewarding game, it only rewards patience and skill, if you get things wrong it is punishing, but thats the beauty of it.

I cant think of a game that comes close to the Souls games, but thats my opinion.

I do enjoy the challenge. Dying a trillion times to a Dark Knight only to finally take him down is quite cathartic. However I don't see cut scenes as a bad thing, in fact I see them as a reward. "You managed to perform X task, we will now flesh out the characters and world for you.". This may be why the Metal Gear Solid series is my favorite of all time.

I have decided I will get DS2.

Eh I finally played one recently and it's living up to the hype for me and then some.

Just play it. The first game is regularly 9.99 on Steam.

My roommate bought it on PS3 and I've been able to play it a little. I played Dark Souls a lot with a few different characters on PS3 and PC. Again he bought it on PS3 and sometimes it's nice to sit on the couch and play. I prefer it on PC and pre-ordered it on PC. So far I've found it enjoyable if not more punishing. I'm not very far into it and have a sword and board character and a magic character. I'm going to try the first playthrough with magic. Should be a good time. I find that the PS3 version kind of hurts my eyes after a while, but I don't really expect awesome performance from a console. Can't wait for the PC version to release!
