Laing DDC 3.1 10W VS Laing D5/MCP655

Hello

Currently I have a pump "Laing 10W" with a top Ek Waterblock (4 WB and 2 rads)

I would put a Laing D5 (or equivalent) with Bitspower mod with top.
Point of view of performance that will be like?

In position 5, the D5 is noisier than the Laing DDC?
Or is it better to put 3 or 4, but it will be less efficient?

The "In" will be on the side and the "Out" on the top (of the top)

I'll be more efficient in terms of flow but it will produce a bit of a hum. Id get DDC though, its far superior in reliability and the custom tops further increase its performance. Highly recommend DDC 3.25. Great pump, but pricy though. I currently own the 3.2 but upgrading to the 3.25.

Not necessarily true. If running at full speed in a low restriction loop, DDCs can burn out, which is why D5s are often recommended for low restriction loops. But with the OP's loop of 4 blocks and 2 rads, DDC burnout shouldn't be an issue.

With my circuit (4 WB and 2 rads), I have Laing 10W for more than 6 years (the circuit has changed several times)

I wanted to take the D5 for Bitspower mod.
Now if a DDC 3.25 will be better, why not

But 3.25 is noisier than the 3.1, I guess?

Yes but you plug it in directly into your fan controller or motherboard CPU header and you can control the pumps RPM to your liking. Just make sure you don't turn it down too low and the pump stops working, it needs at least 7V to run. The extra noise, its very minimal; a slight hum.

DDC and D5 both have their pros and cons. D5s run cooler and quieter with a higher flow rate, but have less head pressure so they aren't good for high restriction loops. DDCs are normally louder and run hotter with lower flow rate but higher head pressure making them the better choice for high restriction loops. I've used both in a 3 block 2 radiator loop and saw no performance difference between the two, and I'd bet you'd have similar results. If you want the Bitspower Mod Top, then go with the D5.

If it is to regulate it, I prefer to take a D5/MCP655 tongue.gif
Especially as performance, it is "the same" (less than 1°C difference) between 3.1, D5, etc...

But I fear that the D5 make "too big" in my config

It would be true for the DDC-3 series 18W pumps without a base cooling to the underside.

Not true about the DDC pump mentioned by the poster to burn out. The DDC 10W pumps run the coolest and are excellent in low and medium restriction loops. Martin's Lab has those test results in undisputed results.

DDC-1 series 10W pumps can run from the CPU fan header easily and with a performance top like the EK they run like the DDC-3 18W, but without the heavy power draw. thumb.gif

As for a D5, it shines in the weaker restriction loops that require high flow to remove the heat. A DDC-1 shines with the performance top for the best power to performance. Even the heat load of the pump into the coolant is lower than a DDC-3. Even if the user has 2 DDC-1 10W pumps with performance tops, the loop is energy efficient and the higher restriction loops are mastered.

With 4 waterblock (CPU, GPU et block R4BE) and 2 rads, a D5 will be good or not?
Compared to a Laing 10W, I'll have a loss of performance or it will be like?

Better performance but louder as well. The D5 isn't too loud at max setting (5) compared to the MCP35x (DDC 3.25).

My Swiftech Apogee Drive II uses a MCP 35x and it's pretty loud after about 50% (PWM). I typically run it at 30~40% (1800~2500RPM).
