hello guys
I've found a used pc build which I think may be excellent for me.
its a i5 4570, gigabyte mobo P85-D3, 4GB ddr3 ram kingston hyperx 1600, seagate 500gb 7200rpm, asus 660gtx ti 2gb, CM elite 431 case, CM 650watts psu and win7pro 64-bits all for about 400$.
this setup costs around 1200 $ in my area 5 months back when this pc was bought.
what do u think?
is it a good deal?
and b/c i didnt buy a used pc before what should i do to test it?
I'll go and examine the pc on friday.
and is it a good upgrade from my current build? "q9550@3.0/mb:ep45ud3/4gbddr2/460gtx/CM750watts/1.5T HDD/????

IMO it's definitely worth it, half a year ago those parts were last gen smile.gif 400$ seems quite a reasonable price, if it works fine, buy it before someone else beats you to it smile.gif

For 400 its a no brainer.

I would run:

Prime95 http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205
Heaven benchmark: http://unigine.com/products/heaven/
and crystal diskinfo http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Also maybe run the 3dmark free edition.

I like prime95 blend test because it is a good indicator of whether the cpu is working well and the cooling is adequate. Also it will stress the memory.

I like heaven because it isolates the gpu really well and is heavy on tessellation.

Crystal diskinfo will just pull the smart data off of the drives.

3dmark free edition (just run free version of firestrike demo) will give you a good feel for if it will work well with all part being stressed.

Some other people might say:
Furmark: I don't like it because it has history of breaking gpus for no reason
Some kind of memory testing software. I don't think it is necessary because it takes a lot of time to get a thorough test and it seems like being borderline paranoid because a blend test on prime95 should show instability.

Edit: Bare minimum I would run crystal disk info and 3dmark firestrike demo. I like the other ones in addition because they can find specific issues better.

thx for your replys.
just as i thought its a no brainer and i told him its a closed deal "somehow" but i have my doubts
and salamachaa for how long should i run prime95 and futuremark and in case he have stock cooler what would be my red flag cuz it can heat up quite a bit and i dont have any knowledge regarding i series. biggrin.gif
and is it a good deal regardless of not being able to overclock th i5 4570?
and thanks again boys thumb.gif

Yes, its a good deal despite being impossible to overclock. I dont run the programs you listed so I cannot comment on that. If you want a fast nice GPU benchmark you could use Heaven benchmark. I dont see why run Prime 95 on a stock clock CPU.
I dont test my overclocked CPUs for hours with Prime 95, I only test a few minutes with the free chess engine Houdini 1.5a 64 bit, which loads all cores 100% (using the also free Arena user interface). If an overclock wont blue screen in 15 minutes of use, that means the overclock is rock solid.

If you are going to be doing these things at the place of exchange, I would just run prime for 10 minutes and the firestrike demo for a loop or two. Don't worry if the demo runs choppy, it is really demanding.

I disagree on your evaluation of what a rock solid overclock is, but it's not really relevant to OP. I am suggesting prime95 blend test for 5 reasons:
1. It tests to see if the cpu is going bad.
2. It will test the motherboard to see if the vrms heat up too much causing throttling.
3. It will test the power delivery to the cpu under a worst case scenario.
4. It will test the cooling for the cpu itself
5. It will test the memory for errors.

99% of the time running prime95 blend for 5-10 minutes will make these problems stick out (temps will be too high, the cpu will start to throttle or a freeze/reboot will happen.)
Between that and running the free firestrike, you should be golden because that will put a good load on cpu, gpu, memory and power supply all at once.

IMO prime95 is a good thing to do in this case, even on stock clocks. It will test for instability incase of any faulty parts as well as see the temperatures smile.gif Who knows, maybe the previous owner did not install the CPU cooler correctly:P

Buying a used PC is always a risk since the person who had it before might not have took proper care of it.

thanks alot.
the plan is to test the rig at his place
run prime95 blend 5-10min
if it goes smoothly then firesfirestriking for another 10 mins and hopefully just grab it and run before he changes his mind.
I'll post about it in here to keep you posted on events
