[Lenovo VP/AVForums] Lenovo set to release 4k TV powered by Nvidia Tegra K1 - Page 3

I wonder if this TV will have DP so it can run 4K at 60Hz.

The reason why people want a huge TV as a monitor is because it can be annoying and too much of a hassle to run a multi monitor setup, I too personally would love a huge screen TV at 4K too.

The reason I find a 50" TV appealing as a PC monitor isn't really new. I've wanted to have a massive computer monitor for years but its only now with the advent of 4k that the resolution of such a TV has become usable as a monitor. If I could get a 50" 4k TV that ran 60Hz I could ditch my dual 1440p monitor setup and go simply with the TV itself. Gaming on a 50" screen would look mental and the high resolution would make normal computing at least manageable...

Need? confused.gif

Despite how much I love high DPI, I've actually been thinking about how awesome it would be to have that much screen realestate for productivity.

Now what I really need (read, want) is a 50" 8K monitor, forget this low-res 4K stuff.

I've a Pana plasma ST60 and every friend that sees it regrets about his mid-end LCD TV. Even my uncle with a Sammy 8000 series says that movies looks better in my pana than in his sammy (which I think it does pretty well for a LCD). The blacks in movies with XMBC in last Pana's after calibration are just insane.

I have an ST60 as well and it's great for general TV. However, it is very susceptible to screen burn and the input lag is horrible at +76ms for that reason I never use it for gaming as it just feels sluggish.

I am holding off until 4k Oled is at a reasonable price for my next purchase.

I've never used it for gaming so I can't tell, I supose it is like you say, but for screen burn, I did the 200h running-in during the first months after buying it and I haven't had any issues.

Plasmas are still larger and heavier than LCDs.

They draw about 100w now days, which is plenty efficient. People shouldn't care much about 50w of difference in their TV. That is barely a few Dollars a year difference. Higher end hardware pretty much always uses more power. The image quality is well worth the few Dollars a year increase ($4-5).

Image retention can still happen to a small degree. It takes 6-8 hours straight of playing a game before the HUD will be very faintly visible on other images for another hour or two after the game has been off, but it does go away quickly and it is no where near permanent. Permanent burn in is pretty much impossible. That 6-8 hours of a static image on screen would easily quality for "improper usage" yet it still doesn't give any real problem to the TV and is gone very quickly. And I dont even have to use the "screen wiper" thing to make it go away.

Also my Panasonic plasma is only about 1" thick. I realize the newest LCDs are only about 3/4" thick but they are within the same ballpark on size.

Huge screens are horrible for productivity. Period.

Anything more than 30" is quickly getting unusable unless you sit very far away.

Console gaming can hardly be classified as "improper usage" for a TV these days.

but the superb image quality is worth it in my eyes.
the weight though is the biggest pain in the izzy with plasma's...been wanting to wall mount, but finding one intended for anything other than LCDs is hard, and i have a 60" and a 50" so both are heavy.

side note, i am a fellow member in the camp of jet engine PCs...all of my fans run off the molex adapters, haha...100% power! and i have 6 case fans alone, not counting the 2 on my rad and the 2 on my GPU which i have idling at 50%.
noise doesnt bother me, i want cold...and i use headphones.

What TV do you have? I bought the 60st50 a year or two ago and it has been fantastic. I once left the Xbox One menu up for 10hrs, there was a little bit of IR (completely invisible in anything but solid colored backgrounds) for about for about a day or two but now it is completely gone. Plasma tech has come such a long ways, it's a shame the general public has a boogy man mentality about them. LEDs are coming along nicely but a decent plasma cant be beat, you have to spend nearly twice as much for an LED that comes close.

For those who are complaining about no plasma 4k, here are the reasons: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/4k-plasma-201311133417.htm

So blame the EU.
