OP you might want to look at the multiplayer benchmarks

Multiplayer is hard to bench. Too many variables with different things happening each time. Though I don't think I've ever seen benches that showed that much of a difference between a 2600k and an older I7 before...though the rest of the chart makes it look like raw horse power helps more than more threads...so the X5650 probably would not be much higher than the I7 930...

I think I'd look around for more benches, but multiplayer will see more of a edge from a better CPU...however, even going off that chart I wouldn't upgrade any CPU from a x6 on up. Though most benches for a 4770k and a 780ti will be in the 70 area for 1080p(with no OC)...but that is ultra settings and we don't know what this bench was done at. Can you link the source of that chart? I am sure it is correct...like I said it is really hard to bench multiplayer. One game with 10 guys 'nade spamming can cause completely different results from a game with few grenades being tossed. So typically the numbers are all over the place.

blechh that is true that multiplayer is hard to bench..

this is pretty tough, and a i see this is a really common thread for 1366 guys, should they upgrade or not..

thats why i say wait, it would suck to drop a ton of money on a new rig and it is barely better than what you have!
my vote is to wait to see what the new GPUs from nvidia are gonna be like (the high end maxwell chips) then start thinking about an upgrade.

Even games like Sim City are bringing my system to a crawl when I get enough population. I just dont know if my GPUs are cutting it. When is NVIDIA due to release a new card?

Well, if the OP has the budget and finds a good price on a X5650...I'd jump on it. Eventually, it will be hard to find one. I wouldn't do it unless the price was good though, because I doubt it will help much currently.

I found some multiplayer benchmarks based on CPU. I gotta say, i think a full system upgrade is in the works once the 790GTX is released. Thanks for all the help!

I would just sell the 6990's and go back to nice and simple single-card 780ti setup, and then put your whole system underwater. Just my 2cents.gif

If you can go to microcenter and get a i7 4770k for $270 i would say its probably a good deal, but then again you need to find a mobo they have to take best advantage of the deal. They have a couple good ones though. You could feasibly sell the entire system you have now on this site or ebay that you have now with gpu for about $500 id think on ebay. I sold similiar cpu/ram/mobo for $350.

Can't disagree with that smile.gif
Unless the OP just wants a whole new system when x99 drops.

He is using a decent rig and shouldn't feel enormous pressure to do anything, he can afford to take it slow in his decision.
