Unless the OP just wants a whole new system when x99 drops.

He is using a decent rig and shouldn't feel enormous pressure to do anything, he can afford to take it slow in his decision.

I couldn't have said it better myself! thumb.gif

Guys, the multiplayer benchmarks listed the i7 930 at stock speeds. Considering I have the same basic processor running at 4.1-4.2 ghz, wouldn't that really boost the results id see? Basically, wouldn't this be quite enough to basically just upgrade my GPUs instead of the entire system?

I would say so...plus like I said...it is really hard to get accurate benches in multiplayer.

However, even if that graph in the thread is spot on...at stock at 1080p you are getting a minimum frame rate of 59fps at stock(any time you look at multiplayer you should only look at the minimum since that will usually be more easily reproduced). 59fps mins are nothing to sneeze at. With an extra GHz of OC that number should get much better unless it was GPU limited.

Well, if the 59fps is due to a CPU limitation you would still have a minimum of 59fps with a multiple GPU setup. However, I don't think any one should ever complain about 59fps minimums...many would be annoyed if they were running a 120Hz monitor...but unless the 59fps lasted for a few seconds I don't think any one would notice it unless they were staring at the fps counter.

With the OC I'd expect it to be about 70fps minimums or there about unless a GPU limitation comes into play first.

And my LCD only goes to 60 anyway... So unless I get a 120 LCD, it would be a waste no?

I don't know...120fps gaming is nice. Even if you have to turn down the detail to get your fps up that high. That is the only way it becomes a waste...if your system can't run the game faster than 90fps or so you won't really see the difference.

I recently upgraded my monitor and I was originally planning on going 120Hz at 1080p...but then I did a spur of the moment buy on a Korean 1440p monitor that wasn't known for overclocking(I did get it up to 70Hz though). So far, I haven't regretted it. So now if I was given a choice of 1440p at 120Hz....or a 4k monitor...I'd probably go for more resolution again.

Sell the 6990s and grab a 780ti. Sell the 920 and get a 6 core xeon. That will be one mean machine.

as said, you can either
1) get the xeon 6 core
or
2) overclock your CPU even more and buy a water cooling setup and wait til skyline or haswell-e comes out

6990s are fine still and it can hold you up til the 880s or 790 gtx comes out which would be an even bigger upgrade
