Who wouldn't partake in the fixes if they were available? The straws man.

Ummm....That's just brilliant coming from someone who doesn't believe the game needed any fixing because issues that aren't deemed as game breakers (in your mind) are too insignificant to care about.

Wait when did I say they didn't need fixes? Nevermind I forgot the OCN logic of "Why read when I can make things up". I said they were small problems that didn't make the game unplayable. Any more straws you want to grab? you seem to be running out.

I don't think it's region locked so you can most likely get it off a CD key site.

Neglect? The store page has a big note stuck above the purchase button stating that a controller is highly recommended for the game, which in case is true. The game runs properly with a controller as was designed. You have to jump through a few hoops to get KB+M working for your personal use (mostly just memorising what the binds are) but it otherwise does work.

As for the internal render resolution (monitor resolution, AA, DoF and V-sync are all configurable in the menu) and frame cap they were left as-is from the console version because the devs did not take the time or money to do quality testing for other configurations other than what they already had done for consoles (this can be another case for discussion since that is all that was asked for by the fans to port over).

If you would like to change render res or frame cap then there are mods for that including a mouse mod to change the default tracking. There's even a mod for online connectivity to make playing with friends easier (playing with others is muddled by game design not bugs). The devs do not condemn the mods and probably support them, there is no penalty other than taking some of your time to set them up (even GFWL lets the online mod through).

Sigh, I realize there are mods. But why are we condoning rushed games by defending these ports. They could have taken more time to polish the game and that is not even debatable. The fact is, they didn't want to. It would cost more then they were willing to put in to a pc version.

The publisher spoke out about it and made mention that DS2 would not be the same outcome. I wonder why?

I played Dark Souls 1 on PC for months with a 360 controller and dsfix and had ZERO issues and the game even looked much better than on consoles, HOWEVER, I do see h2spartan's point and I have to agree. We shouldn't have to "fix" anything. The games should be released polished and bug free and if they show us videos/trailers and then make dramatic changes for retail version they should be upfront about it.

Oh well, Dark Souls is my favorite game of all time so I will play it regardless, but for Dark Souls 2 it would certainly be nice for them to crank up the graphics.

You seemed to use that same OCN logic you mention.

You are suggesting if a game isn't broken that any bugs/issues that wouldn't affect this state of playability do not need the attention I am giving it.

"slight problems."

These are not slight problems. You continue to down play them though because there happen to be third party mods to fix them, all the while continuing to miss the bigger picture, that these problems exist in the first place due to a rushed port.

As said before this is an entirely different discussion. The game was asked for by fans, for fans (mostly) as just a straight port from consoles which for a dev teams first time on PC is not a bad product.

Is the game playable with it's supported control set? Yes.
Are there aspects of the game that prevents the player from playing the game as designed or are otherwise broken? Not that can be seen.
Is the game up to scratch on PC features or additional configuration in the base game for PC gamers? Does not seem that way.
Can the game be modded to add additional functionality and alleviate configuration problems without penalty? Yes.

As far as I can see (and from what I've played) the game functions properly to the same level as is of the consoles (even better with mods).

Again I never said they didn't need attention and these problems exist because all games release with bugs. Get out of that wannabe perfect world you think we should live in because it isn't going to happen. For a company that has never done a PC game to hurry up and release a PC game with so little bugs ( Res and Keyboard) I actually applaud them. Big companies like DICE, IW and the rest don't get that pass.

Here's a quote from the publisher. Maybe you missed it.
Quote:
“We did know there were PC-specific features like key-mapping and use of the mouse and keyboard, high resolution and higher frame rate, stuff like that, but… It’s not that we ignored it, but it would have taken too much time for us to implement it, test it and get it up to the level people expected.

Openly admitted it was not because it was the developers first pc game, it was because of the time it would take to implement the features.

You still continue to defend playability. Hell, any small time developer can release a game that is playable....but because of the lack of certain pc features, does that make it enjoyable for everyone?

Again, mods are cited...I love modding, don't get me wrong, but they are customer repairs/enhancements. Why should we have to edit ini and install aftermarket mods that are supposedly easy fixes?

Lazy devs and greedy pubs I say.

^read this quote....

They knew what they were doing buddy. Stop exaggerating the DS team's incompetence. First PC game....pffft. These were, like you said, day one fixes by the modding community and al lot of them were done in a matter of minutes.

That dev team could have if they were allowed to by the publisher.
