I feel like we're at odds, when we shouldn't be.
I agree entirely, with your position. Yes we should demand better quality pc releases, be they ports or lead platform. You will never hear me argue otherwise.
Am I happy with From's decision to basically not spend an extra month or so to polish out the Keymapping, FPS lock and Resolution? No, I am not. I do not want the great community of PC modders to be the ones that actually finish developing a game that is released on PC.
All I'm trying to say, is there was a lot more to the petition then just getting DS1 on PC. Speaking generally about the North American DS community only and those of us who do enjoy playing Japanese games, an underlying drive of the petition was to get a Japanese dev to actually put a game on PC. Historically, Japanese devs haven't really done much in regards to PC games. From Software is a storied developer and the hope was if we could get them to put a game on PC, it would help convince other Japanese devs that the PC is a viable platform for them to release games on.
Yes, we are a fickle market, we demand a higher level of polish and options than the console market. We will hammer you for any shortcomings but, if you release quality games, you can sell quite a bit of games.
The final test to see if the petition for DS1 on PC was worth it or not, will be born out of the results of the DS2 PC release. If DS2 on PC is just as much as mess as DS1, I think one would be free to criticize the petition. If it turns out to be relatively well polished, as From has promised, I think the petition would be able to viewed as a long term success.
I will be right beside you, criticizing From, if DS2 turns out to be a mess.
We shall see.
