If you care about graphics, you should be on a PC.

That's what it boils down too... though they clearly need to label videos as "PC version".

True but then again not specifying the platform is rather common. You see games all the time being demoed and its quite rare to see big label on it stating what it's running on. Most of the time the big stage demos are of the best looking version (often the only version if its early in development). Later on when the game starts to near completion you see press demos that are running on a wider range of hardware but even then its almost never labeled separately. They might mention in the text or the accompanying interview but there is no label on the video it self. Some times the only clue you have to what its running on is the buttons that appear in game.

Yes I agree that it would be better if stuff was clearly labeled. Really IMO it would be best if developer where required to disclose the exact hardware their demos are running on.

But in the end I don't see it as an huge issue as long as there is an retail version of the game that looks like what was shown. I wouldn't even call them dishonest if for example the PS4 version of Watch Dogs looked like what was demoed in E3 2012 and PC got an watered down version. I would rage about the developers been lazy d-bags for not making a proper PC version but as long as they would deliver what was promised on one platform they would have made the game they showed off.

What I take issue with is when developers show awesome visuals that don't exist at all as an retail product. That is miss leading. That is outright lying.

That's like making a move trailer with Johnny Depp, Leonardo Dicaprio, Will Smith ect. and then not have thous actors in the actual movie.

True, but that was before, when most developers didn't bother doing the extra work for the PC version, because the architecture of the consoles was so different.

With PS4/XBone, it takes only a little effort to have amazing graphics on PC and downscale them to the new gen consoles. There is quite the gap between the new gen and the previous gen as well, which wasn't there before either.

So we will start seeing those differences more often I think and labeling should be done.

It's not really a case of developers being "lazy", or "not bothering" to do work. It's a case of their higher-ups being unwilling to spend the necessary time/money/effort to fix or implement something. If the complainers are a small minority, they aren't going to care.

I feel like we're at odds, when we shouldn't be.

I agree entirely, with your position. Yes we should demand better quality pc releases, be they ports or lead platform. You will never hear me argue otherwise.

Am I happy with From's decision to basically not spend an extra month or so to polish out the Keymapping, FPS lock and Resolution? No, I am not. I do not want the great community of PC modders to be the ones that actually finish developing a game that is released on PC.

All I'm trying to say, is there was a lot more to the petition then just getting DS1 on PC. Speaking generally about the North American DS community only and those of us who do enjoy playing Japanese games, an underlying drive of the petition was to get a Japanese dev to actually put a game on PC. Historically, Japanese devs haven't really done much in regards to PC games. From Software is a storied developer and the hope was if we could get them to put a game on PC, it would help convince other Japanese devs that the PC is a viable platform for them to release games on.

Yes, we are a fickle market, we demand a higher level of polish and options than the console market. We will hammer you for any shortcomings but, if you release quality games, you can sell quite a bit of games.

The final test to see if the petition for DS1 on PC was worth it or not, will be born out of the results of the DS2 PC release. If DS2 on PC is just as much as mess as DS1, I think one would be free to criticize the petition. If it turns out to be relatively well polished, as From has promised, I think the petition would be able to viewed as a long term success.

I will be right beside you, criticizing From, if DS2 turns out to be a mess.

We shall see.

Its a terrific game, I just finished it last night. But the visuals thing is ridiculous, the official dark souls 2 website and many reviews still have all their screenshots from this better looking version that doesn't exist.

And to people who say "its gameplay that matters!" Graphics do matter in games, they're called VIDEOgames. Obviously graphics matter to gamers or else they would stop releasing new consoles.

This is in sorts an ironic turn of events considering the horrific pc port of the original DS.

With last gen hardware comes last gen graphics, Pc's are always going to be capable of the most cutting edge graphics and with that the teams behind them will push those images as they will be the best at selling the product. I do however think that it should be made apparent which platform the footage is from when showing it so people can get an idea of what they are likely to experience when buying it on their chosen platform.

From what I've seen, its not a matter of the console version not matching up to a pc version that was shown. The released game looks VERY different, like textures, shadows, architecture, colour, lighting. I suspect the pc version will not look like this pre-release version that was shown either.

From what was shown we were expecting high end console graphics (last of us, crysis 3)

But despite all that, its an excellent game, i just finished it, took me 52 hours and thats going fast without doing alot of side stuff. Also the most fun I've ever had in multiplayer online coop.

It's just like Titanfall and Battlefield. I was lucky enough to attend E3 and PAX Prime over the last few years. I clearly recall Titanfall using the same dirty tactics. I was with a buddy who's a popular shout caster and we had access to Titanfalls play area 45 minutes before doors opened. We played the game for a bit before a system next to me died. The guys tried to be very sneaky they had the PC's hidden inside the stands. When he opened it up it was clear as day a full tower. We we're supposidly playing a Xbox 1 version of the game.

This tactic has been around since the original Xbox and PS2 days. It's dirty, and most press/console players get up in arms for a whole ten minutes before they forgive them. Not our fault the console group is a bunch of suckers.
