AMD: Catalyst 14.3 Beta driver, Thief Patch featuring Mantle/TrueAudio, and fix for VSync out now - Page 13

Well, I think by now its obvious that there is a problem and we have an ATI rep here who is aware of it so I guess thats a good thing. Now lets keep our fingers crossed for a fix real soon.

Guys, can you provide list of games which were smooth with 13.12 and have trouble with stuttering in 14.x? Also specify your graphic card?

Games I used to test with HD 7970 are working well. Only visible and measurable performance decrease was with Witcher 2, with Ubersampling. Everything else was just fine. Following scenarios are possible:

a) its a driver issue.
b) games you are playing have been patched.
c) its not related to HD 7970, but only to graphics which were released later.

Choice b) can be simply removed if you have rolled-back to Cat 13.12 and performance is back to normal. I believe it can be combination of A and B. Last generation of GCN graphics have better performance numbers in Mantle as HD 7970 due some optimizations. It may be an answer why I dont have any performance issues.

My green lines are not thin at all like they should be with r9 290 crossfire in battlefield 4. I've tried even moving from Sandybridge to Haswell and it hasn't fixed the issue. *** is the problem I'm having? 100 fps in the game feels like 30 fps a lot of the time.... Frame pacing does nothing.

This illustrates the graph I'm getting...

Can anyone provide some help with this issue? Other people with very similar setups seems to have no problem...

Probably this, because most of us with the problem of stutter are 290's owners. But it's still driver issue, new drivers should be optimized for the latest high end GPU's. So a) and c) both are correct.

And about games which were smooth with 13.12 and now are stutter. Here you are.
Sleeping Dogs, Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Battlefield 4 DX mode, Thief DX mode, Mass Effect Trilogy, Crysis 2, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3. All games which i played are stuttering with this driver, just all except one title - NFS Rivals. As you can see problem applies to both older and newer games.

BF4(DX and Mantle), C3 and C2 are smooth with this driver but not BI. 290 here.

It's a driver issue that apparently only affects 290/290X cards. I recently switched over from a HD6850CF setup, had no problems with the 14.x drivers, everything was as smooth as ever, the stuttering started when i installed the 290.
So you most definitely will not experience any issues with a 7990.

Well, on my PC all of them stutter :/ But thanks for the info. At least on Bioshock Infinite we have the same issues and we both have r9 290.

Yeah. It looks like its related only to r9 290/x.

All games I tried using these drivers are just unplayable to me. ESPECIALLY NFS Rivals. I bought my R9 290X the day it came out, excited with all the bells and whistles that were announced (mantle, true audio etc...) and now, as soon as a driver allows us to use these technologies, games become unplayable and I'm not gonna talk about the crashes that occur when browsing with java/flash content sometimes and the HDMI/EDID big mouse cursor problem.
Don't get me wrong, games run well with 13.30 RC3 here but I just feel disappointed to have to rely on a 4 month old driver with a 6 month old flagship video card. I've been buying ATI/AMD cards for years and expect better support from them.

HD 6000 and HD 5000 are not GCN. These were fine even 2 years ago.

So it would be great if people with stuttering will test the games with both drivers, and with HD 7000x or R9-280 - Tahiti core. I dont have any R9-290 (with Hawaii) to test...

This will most likely be my last Amd video card, and I have had a lot of patience up until now. I went 5870 x2 -> 7970 x2 -> 290 x2 and this has been a complete disaster. I miss my 7970's and wish I never dumped 1200 bucks including water into these POS's.
