In some games the 7870crossfire perform as the gtx titan which at the same time performs as the r9 290x said this the advantage of the r9 290/x are

Higher gpgpu performance
2gb more vram vs hd 7870 crossfire
Bf4 free
True audio
Better scaling performance with mantle
Less power consumption
Less heat
Crossfire with another r9 290

Now,r9 290 vs 290x the 290x doesnt worth the extra 100usd.

Where from are you?

I'm an Aussie. So the price difference is even more here.
I'm definitely looking at least getting the 290 if I have extra to spend I'll probably go the X. I'll watercool it either way cause I'll end up wanting to push it and overclock the card

Have you considered cooling the 290 with a Kraken™ G10?

$30 + $50 for a Corsair H50 is less than the price difference between this 290 and this 290x.

*Disclaimer* I used the prices in the United States. Same brand, same memory.

The G10 is a water cooling bracket, and the H50 is a liquid cooling unit. Attach the G10 to the 290, and then attach the H50 to the G10 = liquid cooled GPU.

I think that's what you're wanting, right?

*Disclaimer* I haven't looked into the performance this would yield, but theoretically it would give you the room to surpass a stock 290x.

what i think would be a concern is your PSU. although it is 750W, the quality of the brand might not be up to snuff for a 290.

So when I googled reviews it seems they have a ripple in the 12v rail. Would this cause BSOD? When overclocking with the Asrock motherboard OC profiles it runs perfect on 4 or 4.2 but in 4.4/4.6/4.8ghz profiles it becomes increasingly unstable after those speeds. I thought it may have been the core as I have seen a few forums with people with similar stories, but I have seen people get 4.6 with ease and used the same settings. I have similar problems with overclocking the GPU but I really have been stabing in the dark with that cause I can't find any good info on overclocking them.

I agree and would consider a PSU upgrade as well. For a single or even crossfire setup with mid range GPUs that PSU is fine, but running a high performance GPU and a healthy CPU overclock on that PSU might be too stressing for it, despite the 80+ gold rating... I can't really find many reviews for that particular model, but even for a future crossfire setup with R9 290, a quality 850/860 watt PSU with a 80+ gold or platinum rating should be able to handle it very well, whether you OC the GPUs or not. I have a Corsair AX 860 I picked up a while back on sale for $160... it easily handled my i5-4670K and 7950 Crossfire setup with OCs and will probably be just as capable of handling my 780 setup once I get a second card and go SLI. For more research into PSUs this is a very valuable resource link...

Yeah I was having a chat with Shilka and he was pointing out a few things with the PSU and overclocking he pointed me in the direction of a 1000w unit that will suit my needs at a decent price. Thanks for the info, I should have just spent that bit more the first time around.

I was on my phone when I was looking at it last night and I couldn't see what the go was. I'll have a bit more of a look into them now. Thanks

I have a Cooler Master CM690 II Advanced that was sitting in storage and it's still in the box. I will change over to when I do the upgrades.
