Quote from the review: To bypass all that you'll need to hardware wire the card to get proper voltage levels in it and then apply some serious cooling.

Is he wrong? I consider card locked when it has to be soldered to get get voltage control.

Watch the OC3D TTL video review, quite informative.

The molex connector is a (supplier of power to a) memory-heater (thawer) to avoid cold bugs in sub-zero (ln2) cooling setups. Else you don't connect it.

Guru3d seems to think it supplies additional power like the kingpins extra 6 pin, but I'm more inclined to believe it is for the memory defrosted instead. 100% don't need to plug it in if you don't use dry ice/ liquid nitrogen.

At the backside you can spot a thing or two, the Molex connector can be used to get a little more juice into the card. This however is specific for LN2 pro-overclockers. It is not required to use that connector. A little to the right is a small micro-switch, which allows you to heat up the memory (Instant defrost for LN2 overclockers. Say goodbye to cold bugs)

Nah, they also say the same thing. Also, it would be actually harmful to plug it on above zero- why unnecessarily heat up the memory and hamper memory overclocks?

I can guarantee you there will be people that burn it up lol. Same reason msi doesn't give out afterburner extreme to air cooler Joe who doesn't know what 99% of the stuff on his non reference card does lol.
