Before anyone misreads my post thinking I'm saying air cooling people are dumb or whatever, my point is don't complain about the super beefed up pcb being a waste on air. It wasn't made with air in mind. It was made with the idea it would be covered in frost to be maxed out. Cards like this always find their way home to an air cooled gamers case where it never gets to do what it was meant to, and that's fine, it's their money and they can't spend it on whatever they want even if they never use it for its intended purpose.

but but....

Honestly if I buy this card I wouldn't even waterblock it, tek 9 fat for ln2 benching it then put that sexy stock cooler back on for gaming, I really want to get one but idk if it would be worth it , Asus seems to reserve their good core cards for top benchers so they get good publicity, then the majority of us get stuck with crap cores on a super pcb lol. Might just get another kingpin.

Good luck Waiting for Godot(pardon Maxwell) you will miss such cards, I can't remember when people get so goon options, two version of Classified and 3rd GTX780 Classified, without block or with air cooler, Titan Black HydroCopper and ACX Cooler, Matrix ROG and Poseidon GTX780, HOF V2 and Hercules and someone wait Maxwell as NVIDIA plan to give 40% stronger card than Titan Black. Because every aftermarket Ti model have better result than Titan Black, and it's not real soon something to really outperform that. I mean some good performance difference.
And I think ASUS and others are informed better than we... They didn't launch their best Ti model 2 months before something incredible from Maxwell. They expect to customers at least 6 months continue to buy Ti and they didn't had top model. Probably they had time to launch and time to earn money before Maxwell, not 1-2 months.
Szeged I think you pull from GK110 best possible clock.
I doubt you will be so satisfied as with Ti Classified, better save money for revision on Maxwell and Black Intel Haswell Extreme and some expensive DDR4 kit and X99 motherboard.

when do people guessitmate the 800 cards are due?

What I was trying to suggest is that maybe Asus knows something we don't about when Maxwell will actually get here (at least, the custom pcb high-end stuff). They're releasing this at a time when us villagers have been told the 780 Ti is very much in its end-of-line phase.

I should also say that I want this somewhat surprising "late" release to mean that Asus knows we won't be getting anything more powerful than the 780 Ti for a little while, because I just got a couple of the things and I want them to be relevant for at least a year or so.

This, basically. Asus (I'm inferring) isn't going to put out a custom high-end card (on top of their other custom high-end OC card) if they think it'll be topped within a few months. Again, it's not just what I infer; it's what I want to believe.

Also, +1 for Beckett reference.

ASUS had GTX780Ti DC2 and 2 ROG cards, 760 Dual MARS and 780 Poseidon... Maybe they have even plans to stay on that until Maxwell but their information say GTX780Ti selling will continue and after Maxwell show up because performance, maybe NVIDIA think to launch successor of GK104 first and they have time to launch their best GTX780Ti and sell few months. Even EVGA continue with production of K|NGP|N Classified in April/May, shops will get cards again, lot of people wait them and I think 20-30% stronger custom Maxwell is not close. Everything weaker than that better investment in Ti and waiting real Maxwell.

My guess is 6 months at the earliest for a custom 880 card. If you need a good card now, it's not worth waiting imo.

Been saying Q4 2014 for a long time on Maxwell...

Which is why I'm still interested in buying another kingpin or matrix or 290x lightning. If new cards were coming out any time before September I'd hold off, but they probably won't, so I won't lol.

I just don't see any business reason why Nvidia would be compelled to release anything anytime soon? AMD won't release anything probably til 2015, Nvidia can continue to soak up profits from the 780Ti/Titan Black, remain on top, and continue to develop Maxwell until its 100% ready. Plus they still have the 790 bombshell to drop over the summer...
We will probably see amd release a 290x2 dual card near may, nvidia will fire back with a 790 and that Will be the end of new cards till Nov/dec except the obligatory Asus custom 790 and maybe powercolor.
