[gog.com] (Steam-like games portal) to support Linux - Page 4

This brought up my mood after that series of losses in StarCraft. tongue.gif The only reason I never buy from GOG is because they don't provide games for Linux. Now that will certainly change. smile.gif

None of this is meant as criticism - I'm just confused why you have a machine of that spec wired up, let alone in use.

Firefox, version3. I don't "surf" the web on it, though sometimes i need to download games or patches when gaming (retro gaming). Mainly when i say it can run youtube or OCN it's purely just to see if it can do it (benchmarking).

FYI if you wanna see if an old computer is worth two craps see if it can play 480p youtube (mine can't) it's more demanding than even games because flash isn't truly HW accelerated (only partially)

I've always been surprised OCN doesn't have an IRC channel.

I'm not.

One of many reasons is that which my previous post here pointed out. The community is just too immature to make it work. There was a chat box on the site at one point but was shut down because people didn't exactly get along or follow some basic rules. Too hard to moderate a community such as OCN on a live chat. Too many varying opinions with too many people who don't know how to handle themselves when confronted by someone who doesn't think like they do.

I'm not saying everyone on the forum is like that, as there are quite a few good people here both smart and helpful, or those who may not be the smartest on a subject, but still do their best to help. But overall, the majority here are rather poor at conducting themselves properly.

They do. When you download the game, you get the dos files, and an install of dosbox set up to run the game. The direct download does give you an .exe that installs the files into a folder, but I'm fairly sure you could get the files out yourself on any system.

You could currently buy a game like Descent, then install the OpenGL source port rebirth to play on a linux system.

ahh cool stuff.

I might throw some URLs your way for testing if you don't mind?

Good news. More games for Linux might mean better support from hardware developers. I might reinstall Linux on my hybrid graphics laptop after continually failing to install nvidia drivers (and not only) and giving up.

Seriously when I can load the OCN (non-mobile) page on my smartphone in a fraction of a second, I have to wonder what kind of software/network/hardware setup people are running when they complain about OCN being slow.

When OCN switched to huddler things did not go smoothly, it was indeed more than likely running slow the huddler teams DOES seem to take issues seriously this is why we have the bug report section and it's rules so that they can track bug more easily. from what i understand they have been fixing bugs and improving the speed or at least trying to.
