I think it was X1900 CF or something for BF2142. Its been 2 years since AMD has been trying to fix past mistakes but they are making at faster rate then fixing. Personally i have come to conclusion stick to 1 card 1 monitor setup and dont play around with Beta drivers if you dont have to.

If you think that nvidia is any better with their drivers, you are sorely mistaken. I just came from a 3 way 780 set up and I'm not going to make that mistake again anytime soon. As far as multi monitor, multi gpu set ups, both companies are absolutely atrocious as far as support. However, amd is just a tad better for me as multi monitor features.

Is ist just me or does Mantle seem to be smoother now in BF4? The colors seem better too. I used the new clean uninstall utility before installing 14.3

Mantle still not good in BF4. worse then DX11.

Sad to hear your experience with Mantle in BF4. I gained a massive fps increase in CPU limited areas. Up to 100%. I also proved this in a thread a little while back.

Only partially.

The power limit slider controls a card's arbitrary TDP limit, a limit when left at default, can often be exceeded by recent parts, even in gaming loads, well before thermal limits are reached.

Watercooling your GPU is probably the main reason for this.

Knock 30C off the card's load temps and you also knock off about 10-20% of it's power consumption, all other things being equal. Cooler ICs (GPU, VRAM, and VRM) are more efficient.

Temperature can significantly effect efficiency, especially where the VRM is concerned.

I'll have to test the new beta again. I'm positive the power limit slider wasn't doing anything on the previous 14.x ones, but I may not have been a diligent as I should have been in cleaning old drivers out before testing the new beta.

On a stock BIOS, I can produce throttling at stock clocks with anything less than +50%. However, this almost never happens in games, +20% is sufficient here.

Anyway, I'm a stickler for stability (and since I use my parts for more than games, gaming stable doesn't come close to cutting it), so I only use what I can make stable in the most demanding tests I can find, which means pretty much no overclocking at all on my R9 290X until I get it under water.

My Thief Benchmark all settings maxed
DX
Min-34 Max-78 Avg-53

Mantle
Min-59 Max-101 Avg-72

Got the driver and patch just in time to play the last two minutes of Thief. Gotta love the bait and switch. Big boost in performance for me. Guess I'll start over

That was 14.2 drivers or 14.3 ?

I played it for ten minutes or so with 14.2 & mantle last night and the game looked brighter to my eyes. Nowhere near a jump in the frame count either

14.3 beta. This was benchmark rates. Fraps doesn't work with mantle so not sure what FPS was in game. However I played about an hour and it was silky smooth.

Okay thanks for all the info, yeah I definitely ran the AMD driver cleaner before I installed the newest beta so maybe that is why it seems to be working for me? Or just my 50c gpu temps allowing me to run with less power like you said.

are GCN 1.0 gonna benefit from mantle the same way GCN 2 is?
