[TPU] Corsair Expands PC Case Line with a Trio of Carbide Series SPEC Gaming Cases - Page 11

If the picture in the original post was of the SPEC-02 people wouldn't complain so much.

This is SPEC-02

The SPEC-03 is the most aggressively styled , even Jeff says so in the video.

SPEC-01 I don't see taking off as much , it lacks compatibility with 160mm CPU coolers and lacks a bottom fan mount (and also missing tool-less PCI-e slot covers / SSD cage / missing rear exhaust fan, single USB 3.0 ports are wasteful).

----

It's the same design language as the Carbide 400R / 500R with the bulging side panels, the only difference is the front bezel looks like the Carbide Air 540.

I certainly like these cases better than Cooler Master's "gamer" cases and you can bet they will probably be built better to boot. Now would I buy one? No, but I think they will be another success for a company that is putting a string of them together. Good job George and please don't take offense to some of the immature posters around here....

To put it into perspective Corsair cases are sort of like Ferrari. You expect a certain look with their builds and this SPEC 3 verson is a poor man's NZXT/Coolermaster hybrid.

Each brand has distinct looks and Corsair has to be mindful about how they want to deviate from that.

I think even their target price sensitive markets would be disappointed in the exterior as well. If they wanted aggressive stylings like this they could've gone for NZXT or Coolmaster (though the latter might be too expensive for them).

The SPEC version 01 has the level of slickness you expect from Corsair. Spec 02 is middling.

Front grille is MEH but definitely might be able to compete with my HAF! Next case? Who knows.

See, this is constructive criticism that is not immature and details what it is exactly that he doesn't care for. I'm sure George welcomes feedback like this and its the reason he probably has an account here in the first place. Nobody is saying that you guys have to like everything a company makes; by all means be honest with the reps about what you like and don't like, just do it in a respectful and constructive way. thumb.gif

Sorry guys, I should have added pics of all three SPEC iterations, I just chose the one I liked the best SPEC 03, but I can understand why it might be a bit too "outrageous" or "over the top" for some tastes. The SPEC 02's mild-mannered grill just looks too bland IMO, if you are going for departure in style far from anything you've presented previously, might as well go all the way. I can see the SPEC 03 making a really nice silent gamer, and that's coming from a CaseLabs M8 owner.

A SPEC chassis as my primary rig? Um no, maybe 5years ago, but as a secondary or tertiary rig? Sure, why not at that $60 "stealing it" price. smile.gif

But like everyone else, I'd like to see Corsair increasing the area under the curve with more premium products.

edit: I'll add more pics and links to the original post tomorrow am, so everyone has an improved first impression of the SPEC series.

its pretty "intense" looking, at least a its bit less in-your-face than what most case companies offer at 50 bucks over here. (ehem thermaltake lol rolleyes.gif) i personally know a good amount of people who would gobble this up if it maintains its srp over here.

Since we have a Corsair rep here, I would love to see Corsair update their Obsidian 650D, such as eliminating all the unnecessary holes in the back of the case that can let dust in, moving the HDD cages back a bit to allow a thicker 200mm fan to be installed to replace the noisy one (or, even better, just eliminate the 200mm front fan and replace it with a couple of 140mm or 120mm fans), put a gasket between the case and the side panels to eliminate rattles and dust intrusion, fix the fan switch that burns out on most people, make the case a bit wider to allow a bit more room for wire management behind the MOBO plate, put a wire management grommet where the recessed panel that has two tie downs is so people with extended ATX MOBOs can have a direct shot at one for the SATA cables coming off the MOBO, and replace the antiquated pass-through USB 3.0 cable with one with a more reasonable length with a connector that will fit a USB3.0 header on the MOBO. Some sturdier feet than the plastic ones would be nice.

Hm, I think I will buy me the Spec 03 or 02, the front grill on the 03 looks like in few years would be more "weak". .anyway these are perfect and would i probably would design for myself.
