[AndroidPolice] Google Announces Android Wear – You'll Want To Forget All Other Smart Watches When You See This - Page 5

Another completely pointless and useless product. Smartwatch. It's really stupid to wear a smartwatch for what reason? If I want gps and stuff I use my smartphone. Smartwatches seem so lame and dump. I'm pretty sure when Apple realeses their iWtach thing everybody will run like crazy to spend their money on a useless thing. Now that Google launches their 1st no one cares. But when Apple do everyone will lose their minds. Like its gonna be any different. Pure marketing. Create a need where there isn't one.

Sony already has a couple of solutions around for Android, not sure if it works on iOS, like this SBH20

No thanks, I'll keep my automatic self winding skeleton watches.

Smart watches aren't mature enough to be useful yet, and are ugly as sin.

I do hope other people embrace them though, the concept of wearable devices is right, and manufacturers need to see interest if they are ever going to improve.

Also, the same products can give you a rough idea of how many calories that you have burned. Calculating that isn't as hard as you might think, sure there are some variables and other factors but still. There are plenty of watches that can calculate heart rate as well.

Just take a look at Nike+ products for example.
I'm familiar with the Nike+ and similar objects. Even after calibration I've found them to be no better than 75% accurate. Human strides aren't of a static length, so no matter how well the device tracks one specific gait, it can never accurately present the distance of travel.

They never provide an accurate idea of how many calories are burned. They are using the metabolism of an average human and guessing. If your metabolism is above or below average, the device is way off.

My blood sugar runs 20-40% higher than the average human, I have 4-6% body fat when I don't exercise, and with vigorous exercise my heart rate can hit 220+ without cardiovascular damage. These products will never be able to even give me a ball park estimate of the calories I burn. People are not a sum of averages. Machines that treat them as such will never be accurate.

Why should your phone be able to play music when a Zune can do that, or why should it take pictures, when a digital camera can? I see your point, but I just want to point out that the combination of technology is a huge part of progress, but also Zunes. See I think it wouldn't get in the way because it wouldn't get caught in your arms, since it is connected to your hand, and run in between your arms to your head, sort of hard to explain but I think if the headphones were just the right length it could work.

I'm in for a pair of these on Kickstarter, if you or anyone else is also interested.

The Dash

Well the problem with that is, for one, if I lose those, that sucks, 2 they cost a lot and I don't even get a smart watch, and 3 it is completely proprietary, see if I had it on my smart watch, I could use my cheapo earbuds or my nice comfortable Sennheiser hd 25-1 ii's, or a friend's ear buds if I don't have mine with me, or some new ones that I buy that have wings and can make me a cup of coffee in the morning, the possibilities are limitless when I can use hardware of my choice.

It probably wouldn't happen, because of the space it would take up, it doesn't look sexy to have a wire running from your cool smart watch to your head, and probably also power/hardware requirements might be a little much for a tiny smart watch, but I can dream.

You forgot to mention that bluetooth headphones (and even worse in earbuds) sound atrocious, are heavy, and have a limited life span due to the internal battery running out of usable charge cycles. All that, and if you are paranoid, or "health conscious", there is always the concern of them slowly microwaving your brain wink.gif. In general, bluetooth and audio just shouldn't mix unless absolutely necessary.

I didn't even think of the microwave possibilities....

Why does everyone have to rename the watch. Very annoying.
