Those that do care though (e.g. movie and tv studios), would be willing to pay dearly for it starting day 1.

As for the rest of us, Soon™

Well admittedly I already have a Caustic R2500 card. (The production version from Imagination with the same raytracing chip). They have a ways to go on the feature side before it's really ready for production, most importantly it needs instancing support. I'm a little disappointed that the Wizard is OpenRL 1.x not 2.x since that means we won't be seeing an updated OpenRL with hopefully features such as instancing added. But yeah, instancing + 18 Gigarays a second on a card with 16GB of RAM and I would be over the moon happy.

NVIDIA's OptiX does predate PowerVR's OpenRL support, but they are not very comparable.

Just for the record, we've been ray tracing since before we had computers to do it on.

I had a whole semester to learn to do it by hand on perspectives with pencil and then ink. Way after computers were pretty good at it...looks fancy, but I prefer customizing a Sketchup style for the same kind of "hand sketch" look now biggrin.gif
