I think my Sapphire r9 290x TRI-X is performing really bad, any advice?

Hello, I recently bought a Sapphire R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 TRI-X, but I have a couple of problems;

1. When streaming with OBS to Twitch, and running BF3 on HIGH or ULTRA, my game stops responding some times. It does not crash or freeze, but it gets really bad lag spikes. For example, when I move my mouse so I would turn 45 degrees in game, and move my mouse back to turn -45 degrees in game, my game is still going to +45 degrees then coming back -45 degrees really slow, and I get killed all the time because of this. It is responding really nasty!

2. Without streaming, my FPS sometimes drops till 30 in BF3 on ULTRA and on HIGH, but mostly around 70FPS. This really bugs me out, because I payed 515 euro for the card and I am getting really poor FPS, while my friend has a 200 euro card, and is performing better than mine.

3. In DayZ I get absolutely no slow response to my mouse, but I am getting the same FPS as my buddy does with his 50% priced GPU.

4. In Heaven Benchmark 4.0, I am getting lower score than others do with the same GPU

I think my GPU has a problem?

My system setup:

  • MOBO: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 4670k
  • CPU COOLER: Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH Edition
  • GPU: Sapphire R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 TRI-X (stock, no OC)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance pro 2 x 4GB (now OC at 1600Mhz)
  • PSU: Corsair cx750m

Please help me out

1. Can't comment on streaming and playing but I do know in general you will get lower FPS when streaming vs just playing. 30 fps seems like a very big drop though.

2. FPS spikes can happen with virtually any graphics card and is not symptomatic that there is a problem with yours. (I run trifire and I still get fps drops)

3. DayZ is an alpha stage game I believe, I don't think the engine has any optimizations for either nvidia or amd architecture ( could be wrong on this) so I wouldn't use that as an indicator. Can you comment on other games that are much more mature ? I.e. Skyrim, Far Cry 3, crysis 3 etc

4. Your heaven score seems about average for a 290x, especially one that is running at stock clocks.

You will want to check your temps and air flow in the case. It's highly doubtful but your tri x could be throttling if it's hitting 95c (again, I don't think so because the tri x cooler is very good)

My suggestions:

Overclock your CPU if you haven't done so, this will help out with streaming imo
Check and monitor your cpu and gpu usage and temps while you're playing your games
Report back and let us know if anything pops up as out of the ordinary

Which temperature does your video card`s vrm have?

@phallacy & @PontiacGTX My VRM temps get around 83 degrees at MAX use. For example when mining with overclocked settings and 20 intensity. When gaming, it's even less hot. I have a pretty nice airflow in my Cooler Master HAF XM. But it gets really annoying when playing BF3 and streaming, and it gets unresponsive / slow reaction when turning and trying to aim. I'll have a video somewhere of this happening, but looking at the recorded stream now, it is unwatchable. Pixelated till the moon. This only happens with BF3, with DayZ sa and CS:GO I have no problems streaming.

So with BF3:
Lag spikes
Slow reaction, like 3 second after I move my mouse, it starts following my mouse path slowly.
Pixelated stream and recordings. Example: http://www.twitch.tv/f4llcon/b/511972534 from 0:30

My internet speeds: down: 120Mbps, up: 6Mpbs. So it can't be my internet speed.

UPDATE: I was streaming at (1920 x 1080 playing) downscaled to 720p, and with 2000 bitrate, so that's why BF3 was pixelated.
I changed 2000 to 3500, and streaming was good. Still don't know why my in game movement get's lag whenever I stream.
