cost Wal-Mart a lot of money?

lol "a lot of $$$" is highly relative

Heh, I think I've read that on average there is $30 million spent in Walmart stores ever hour...24 hours a day with a lot of items on a massive markup. They can afford a non-profitable leader if they have to, though they probably don't even have to pay competitively with Game Stop. The idea that some one could scoop up a dozen games they don't play any more and get $50 towards a new TV or something will be enough.

Granted $8 is higher than I ever knew of in my tenure with the company, most we charged was $3. You gotta realize that not everyone takes very good care of their games. You can't pass that crap off to the customer. Now, with that being said I'm aware a lot used games that are sold in GS's are scratched and don't work but in the stores I ran I consistently sent games back to the warehouse for refurbishing even ones that were already in my inventory to avoid any customer issues.

Reducing the value of a used item based on condition, sure!
But actually charging a customer to buy something back? Insanity!

Having an actual charge means that if the buyback value was less than the $8 reconditioning "fee" then you would owe Gamestop money.
I completely understand that good quality returns can be worth more than poor quality ones, but you just offer less at the table, or don't accept the return buy-back.

Maybe it is just me, but I find it hilarious.

I see what you're saying. I misread your sentence earlier. Makes way more sense now, and in those cases I always just turned the trade-in down. Not over 1 scratch but if it looked like somebody used it as a skateboard on their way in from the parking lot.

Why would you rely on public transportation, I mean you could get a bike at a garage sale, you could bike to the microcenter in less than an hour. 50 bucks will get you a bike you can take everywhere. Unless you're like me, leave my bike unchained in back yard, now gone...

It takes a brave soul to bike through NYC...even if you get a bike lane some one will try to drive their car through it to get ahead a full car length or some great feat.

Haha, I never realized it but, yea.....

GameStops are close to Wal-Marts!

I personally favor Video Games Plus, a store in my home town that is still running strong. Started by a family I went to school with years ago, and have just done it right. Their pricing on used is great, what they pay is fair, they can get new just as easy as anyone else. Heck, their accessories are generally cheaper new than even Wal-Mart. I bought a new 360 controller from them for $10 less than Wal-Mart!

They also have a retro gaming section, which is awesome; I love how they want to keep it alive!

Whenever I am back in town I try and swing by and check things out, it is always worth the trip.

Walmart Electronics Associate here. From what I understand, we will be shipping the games out and will not actually be reselling them in store at all. So basically you'll only be able to trade games in for an eGift card that can be used at any Walmart/ Sams Club location. There won't be any used games for sale in store as of right now.

Same with me, 3 different malls all have Walmart and EB Games with a 2min walking distance apart.
I know EB Games well, as I used to work for them. Sometimes there trade value is terrible and can get more value just selling it on Ebay or Craigslist.

Happen to know what will be done with them? Shipping them off to where?
