The move from 7970 to 780 isn't so much an upgrade as it is a side grade, the advantage comes in you would be able to make use of G-Sync should you buy a compatible display.
As for what display is better than yours, better is subjective. A good TN panel display will have better motion clarity and response time than any IPS, you just lose a little bit of color reproduction (Although the ROG Swift is looking to minimize that).
Right now the two monitors looking to make a change to the display field is the Asus ROG Swift, it is a 27" 1440P G-sync 8-bit TN 144Hz display, for about $800. The TN panel in it is the first mainstream 8-bit, compared to standard 6-bit, and was designed from the ground up by Asus for this display. It should be nothing short of amazing.
Next in line is what I am referring to as the little brother of the above display. It is a 24" 1080P TN G-Sync display, I am just not sure if it is 6-bit or 8-bit. It should come in around $400.Edited by PostalTwinkie - 3/22/14 at 12:15pm
