XFX Double d r9 280x underperforming?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I recently built a new rig with the below specs:
Asus M5A99FX PRO R 2.0 MOTHERBOARD
AMD FX 8350 8 core processor 4.0ghz
Kingston hyper x black 8 gb ram
XFX double d 3gb ddr5 r9 280x
1 tb harddrive
620 watt antec high current gamer psu

Now, in bf4 I get around 40-60 fps on average with everything on ultra and AA maxed out but its very sporadic.
I also got a score of 1077 on heaven benchmark 4.0 I checked temps they are fine, I updated drivers to mantle while throughly cleaning the old drivers as well. Are these scores normal for a non overclocked GPU? Thanks. If not, what can I do?

What res, 1080p?

Just be smart with your settings! Turn down MSAA, or better yet turn it off and use high quality SMAA.

And overclock that GPU!

No way that a FX8250 @ 4Ghz is a bottleneck in BF4 with just a single R9 280X.. Especially not when using Mantle.

Check VRM temps in GPU-Z. XFX DD's are known to have very terribad VRM temps.

i did not say that. i may have alluded to that but what i am really saying is . . . based on my experience . . . i have to oc my i7 to 4.5 paired to a 7970 to play BF4 MP nicely.

mantle works great with my 290 and i7. i can even turn ht off and put the chip to stock while maxing out the game. something i can't do with DX11. i am not sure if it works the same with the 280X.

edit: at op, run another bench like 3DMark or 3DMark11.

Yeah my score is barely getting 1072. Will check vrm temps later but I know my gpu temp was 60 c full load. Do you think it could be the mantle drivers? Maybe I should rollback. Also just fyi, my cpu temps are around 55 c underload. I dont think its a temp issue although havent checked vrm. Hmm.
