Can you check in the BIOS settings to make sure if it's loading to the IGP first then to the PCI express slot. I've heard weird stories of having an IGP active then going to PCI doing funky things. If not CMOS reset might help.

What PSU is in this PC? Has it ever functioned normally with the current hardware?

I can't even tell. I can't figure out how to remove the damn thing. Alienware computers are so over complicated it's stupid. And the computer supossedly worked.. The 7970 is apparently only like a month old. So that's why I thought maybe it was just the video card at first. The guy just plays "mmos" and needs his computer back by friday cause hes a "Healer and his group needs him" lol

I checked the BIOS and saw nothing about IGP.

Some things are really simple to check like GPU, PSU, RAM. Its as simple as removing or using another. If you think its the PSU simply try another one.

My money is on 1 of 2 issues (not in any order)

1) PSU not pushing enough power. This manifests when you have higher power cards in. If the cards dont get enough power then it can cause problems with the card or the card can be using power at other components expense. You already know its not the card, and its very unlikely a physical issue with the pci-e slot as you tried both. Next step is try another PSU.

2) Motherboard issue. This is harder to test. First thing update/reflash the BIOS (even if its the same version). Check the battery on the motherboard to ensure its not dead. Check all the jumpers (these are less important now a days but they could still be wrong). Remove all non-essential components/cables. Start with only CPU/MB/1x RAM/PSU (yes without a HDD) and only the power lead from MB to case, slowly add 1 thing at a time. Not always an option but if it is simply swap the MB with another and see if everything works.

Other notes. Make sure if an optical drive is plugged in it doesnt have a disc in it. Remove any addin card if you havent.

I had a similar problem some time back when first installing my Nvidia GTX 560 Ti it would artifact and occasionally reboot my entire system.

I later figured out it was Drivers. I needed to install the GPU and Mobo drivers for the card then everything worked fine so I would suggest finding the latest drivers and installing them if it doesn't work all you've done is waste a little time smile.gif

Drivers maybe, delete and reinstall Catalyst, could also be your 8pin CPU plug on the Motherboard not quite being connected and not providing enough power. I'd suggest shutdown, unplug all power delivering cables, destatic oneself disconnect everything, clear CMOS (not before backing everything up) then reconnect all but the rudimentary items (OS Drive, one stick of RAM etc etc) and one by one reconnect everything else while observing when things go haywire.
I hope this helps because these situations suck big cahones

The drivers have already been reinstalled. Plus, driver's wouldn't explain the artifacting at the BIOs splash screen.. But I was able to find out the PSU is like 825w. So that should be more than enough.

What is the exact model of Alienware? I'd be willing to bet this problem started when he upgraded to the 7970.I'm sure Alienware didn't install a strong enough PSU for a 7970 seeing as how the strongest current GPU offered is a 270X(7870). A crappy 825w,especially if it is a few years old may not cut the mustard.

All the searching I did pointed to a GPU, but only the AMD cards did it to you, not the NVidia, maybe you've got some funky 12V rails on your PSU. Do you know the brand of PSU that is in the Rig?
