I had to make some modifications to the block, it would not mount 45*, so I had to grind down the corners of the protrusion.

@inedenimadam,

That quote is from a post of yours in that linked mod thread. I'm just curious as to what you used? Was it done manually, or did you use a grinder of some type?

I read thru the mod thread but didn't see this discussed beyond that quoted post.

It is in the first post inside a spoiler tag. But I will explain it here a little further in depth. I took a file to the corners of the raised section in order to accommodate mounting the block with the AMD top plate to the GPU. The block would not have fit unmodified because it is so large that putting it on a 45* would make it stick out past the bottom of the card.

This thing is ready made for 45* mounting for a GPU with zip ties. You can still see the file marks in the block, but since there is no actual contact where the marks are, I did not spend all afternoon cleaning it up. I just sanded the protrusion lightly to make sure that the file did not leave any boogers to scratch the top of the die and called it good.

Honestly, for $8.29 it does a bang up job, there is only a 5C core delta between this and my full cover EK block. It is not pretty...but it works!!!

EDIT TO ADD:

This is one MASSIVE block of copper. probably worth more than I spent on it in melt weight.

Thanks for the quick reply and the more detailed explanation. Pretty good job for having done it with just a hand file.

In. I'd love to put a water loop on my little brother's computer with this and my old hf supreme since the stock fans on the 7770 and apu are so loud.
