[oculusvr] Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 Announced - Page 7

post #61 of 248
Yes! It's over 60hz. As long as they show willingness to break that threshold now I have confidence they'll aim for higher frequencies in the future. Back in the CRT days I usually aimed for 80hz, so the current model is pretty good.

As far as I'm concerned they could release it now, and then we just need to wait for the 120hz 4K edition as soon as Displayport 1.3 comes out.

With FreeSync. thumb.gif

However, I doubt that OLED + 2160p + 120hz would be cheap enough to be considered for the consumer version in the near-term... maybe they could have a "high-end" sku with those specs?

It's a good thing this supports 75hz because otherwise Nvidia's drivers will default to using a 16-235 color range for the entire display output with no setting on Windows to change it to full 0-255 (the option present in Windows is only for video playback), and that would really make a difference considering the crazy contrast that OLED has compared to LCD.

Details on said Nvidia color-range issue:

I am boggled this is still an issue 18 someodd months after the initial post. That's seriously sloppy of NV. I went straight from DVI to DP so I never ran into it. I'd be curious to get a survey of which connector is most popular.

I must have this for so many reasons. I can't wait for the final consumer version, so this dev kit will do until the final version is released.

So what do I sacrifice from my haswell-e budget to buy these? redface.gif If I knew what was coming in the consumer version I might hold off but dang. 75hz oled. I (narrowly) resisted the first dev kit…I’m not sure I can do it a second time.

agree, split per eye too.

there needs to be low medium and high models

low = 1080p
medium = 1440p
high =4k
