My build, need some advice on making it perform better!

Hi,

I built this computer in 2012 and it doesn't seem to run as fast as I think it should when I am play COD games like Modern Warfare 3, Black OPS 2 and Ghosts.

I could use some advice on making my computer perform better, for some reason it started to slow down on boot up. I don't know to much about overclocking so I need some help!

Here is a list of what is in my computer:

Thermaltake Level 10 case
Asus Maximus V Extreme
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit
Corsair Hydro Series H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Intel Core i7-3770K Quad-Core Processor 3.5 GHz 8 MB Cache LGA 1155 - BX80637I73770K
4 x 8GB to make 32GB G.SKILL Trident X Series 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
2 EVGA GeForce GTX 680+ 4096 MB GDDR5 Dual Dual-Link DVI/m HDMI/DP/SLI Graphics Card P/N: 04G-P4-3685-KR
1 Samsung 840 SSD 500 G
1 WD Velociraptor WD1000DHTZ 1TB 3.5" SATA Hard Drive
1 Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive
Enermax MaxRevo 1350W, 12V Multiple Rail, 80 Plus Gold Full Modular ATX Power Supply EMR1350EWT
2 ASUS Internal 24x DVD Rewritable SATA Optical Drive
Asus VG278H 27-Inch 3D Full-HD LED Monitor

Couple things, on your build first.
1: That case is ghastly and overpriced (subject to whoever owns it)
2: You got an H100 instead of the H100i? Any paticular reason?
3: Why so much ram, you have like 32GB's of it for some reason and at a MHz that your CPU doesnt even support.
4: Why 680's? I mean if you got a good deal on them whatever, but at the same time, you should have gotten a more modern card.
5: Why did you buy a velociraptor? Just why? you have an SSD.
6: HOLY BALLS THAT PSU IS HUGE!?!! Do you plan on running 4 cards in the future?

Anyways, its probably the latest Nvidia drivers thats causing your slowness. I have tons of problems with them and so do alot of other people. Also, what is your RAM currently running at for speed? And what are your temps for everything (including motherboard stuff like south bridge, etc)? You could just be running hot and everything is downclocking because of it.

*EDIT*
Also, how fast do you think it should be running and whats it currently doing?

*EDIT AGAIN*
Add your rig to your sig (tutorial in my sig)

*EDIT ONCE AGAIN*
I just noticed that you posted this in Build Logs, you should have posted it in General, but no big deal, an admin will probably come along and move it

What's wrong with the 680s? aren't the 770s basically re-badges of them, maybe an improved core?
Edit: Just realized in the OP post

GTX 680 cards are still fast even today i got two of them and its only 3-4 games i cant max

And yes GTX 770 is a cheaper version with faster RAM and higher clocks speed

Nono, that wasnt a question. I know they're still fast, but I was wondering why 680's if its a brand new build. And the 3770k for the "brand new build" when the 4770k is actually cheaper sometimes, and usually only $5-10 more.

I am sorry I said it was a new computer, but it is not. I should have changed that I built this computer in 2012,. The video cards were the latest when I got them. As far as the ram I really wanted enough that I didn't have to upgrade in the future!. The cpu is set at 4.2 and the ram is 2400. I was told by a ASUS guys and said that this was what I should buy! I would like to learn more about overclocking. You said the cpu doesn't handle the ram, what do you mean? As far as the case, I got a buy on it, but if I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy it, no space in the back. Some of the hard drives was from a old build. I am suck with what I have and am trying to find out what the best settings would be the make it run smoothly. Can you guys help me?

The Ivy-bridge processors were capped out at I think 1866MHz for ram speeds (correct me if im wrong), meaning that the processor doesn't really utilize more speed then that. The newer Haswell processors go up to like 2400MHz, granted there isnt even a need for that much speed anyways unless your using an APU, which you arent. Also, 16GB of ram would be well past enough, 8GB is getting on alot.

Anyhow. What are you getting for performance numbers? And what do you think you should be getting?

The CPU doesn't support the 2400mhz that you have your Ram running at. Now I see people saying that 1600mhz would be the sweet spot but I don't know..

Anyways he just meant that 2400mhz wouldn't give you any real performance gain. Because the CPU doesn't support the Ram speed.

Try underclocking your RAM to 1600MHz to see if this helps, I was under the impression 2400MHz was supported but it may not be. Under clock the RAM to see if this is causing the problem.
