Just ordered a TF701T- how I got to the conclusion it was the tablet for me.

So I've been looking to get a tablet (never owned one before), and I've played around with my wife's Kindle Fire HD 8.9, and had a few Dell vue 7's which all failed due to bad charging plugs. (I still have a couple wasting space). Anyway I wanted to get more of a premium tablet. I originally wanted a Samsung. I still love the samsung line of tablets and phones, but I don't want to pay a premium price or get a lower resolution screen. I've had a bunch of Samsung device.

I then took a really hard look at the windows tablets that are popping up everywhere from all the different manufactures. I kind of narrowed it down to the surface pro (1st gen re-manufactured) or the Dell 11 pro. I either wanted the surface for sheer power or the dell for the newest bay trail processor which is pretty potent in it's own right but smaller and didn't require active fans and cooling. Anyway I got to thinking and I am not ready to jump ship on android and go windows just yet. I like all the stuff I use on the android market. And I use a Nexus 5 for my phone and custom ROM. I also didn't like that most windows tablets were lower resolutions if <500$. And the highest were 1080p or similar. maybe 1920x1200.

So, back to android tablets and I started shopping on Swappa. Which BTW has awesome deals and is a great way to buy/sell used phones and sometimes tablets. I got my sights on a note 10.1 2014 edition. I really really like it, and I still think it's the best choice with the octa core processor. Same resolution at 2560x1600 as the TF701t, only brighter.

And that brings be back to shopping at Amazon. While I was looking for the best price for a Dell 11pro, I saw that the $500 tablet could be attained for $400 used from the Amazon warehouse. I then looked and saw the TF701t was originally sold at $450, now commonly listed for $400, and used was $262. I still think the Note 10.1 2014 is a better tablet, but it's difficult to get a used one for <$400 without a ton of screen scratches or other possible catch. Anyway I ended up getting the TF701T which was $262, $280 with tax. I'm not sure why they charged me tax, perhaps it was shipping from a warehouse within NC. I also ordered a 64gb samsung micro SD pro for $26 and a dock used for $60 (originally 140) and a case for $20.

Got the whole package for under $400 with the dock, case, extra storage and TF701t. This is getting me the high resolution I was seeking, a new processor (tegra 4, currently the newest tegra tablet processor), plenty of storage (32gb internal and 64gb external). I kind of think I would still have liked the surface pro 128gb, but this way I'll have less weight and thickness and keep the android market.

Anybody else here have a TF701T? How do you like it? I seem to read mixed reviews online. If you have one, did you root it, ect?

I would agree with you there. But, can you get a Note 10.1 2014 edition or Tab Pro for < $300? Probably not. I got mine for $260, and another $60 for the keyboard (which I"m not having all the issues some people are having). Still that's cheap. At my budget, it was hard to find anything to compete. Even comparing used prices. (I'd take a used device over refurbished as used carries normal warranty and refurbs are limited to the 90 days from samsung) thumb.gif
