Build for a friend, Looking for a case

So my friend came to me and asked if I could put together a gaming computer for him. Of course I said yes and went to work. thumb.gif Here is the build that I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3ctjt

The budget is no more than $1500 USD but the lower the better, trying to keep it under $1200 USD. Right now I feel pretty good about the build but just cant seem to find the right case, I always get stuck on the case when I build a rig tongue.gif

Was wondering if you guys could shed some light on some cases that would work well with this build. Also if you have any comments or concerns about the build it self, feel free! He will be using this computer for mostly gaming but also some programs like Photoshop, Premiere, and other programs of the like, but nothing crazy.

Thank you in advance!

First question I always ask....

Will he be overclocking, or will he be having you do it? If not you can always shave money off a build. If so, you are going to want to add a better cooler, either an AIO water cooling unit, or a decent air cooler.

As for cases, it really depends.....

I like the NZXT Gamma, the NZXT Switch, the NZXT H series, the NZXT Source series....all great cases. You also have cases from Cooler Master, Fractcal, Xigmatek. Honestly the list of awesome cases across every budget just goes on and on and on!

If I had to drop money on a case right now, it would be a tough call, but I would seriously be considering something like the NZXT H440 or H630.

He will not be overclocking it at all, and I will not be overclocking it for him at all either. I don't know much about overclocking, but will be learning about it when I build my rig in May. What could I save some money on if there wont be any overclocking? Also thanks for the case ideas! I'll look into the NZXTs and Fractals as I have looked at those before for some other builds I did for friends biggrin.gif

Just looked at some cases real quick, the NZXTs seem like they are a little pricy looking for under $100 on a case. I like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352020 I actually looked at this case for my personal build (coming in May) but I couldn't fit the Corsair H100i in it so I decided to go with the Corsair C70 case. How does that case look and does anyone have any experience with it?

If it won't be overclocked then you can look at non K series cpus, and get a lower cost motherboard. You can shave about $50 off the cost of the build just on normal pricing, or if you can catch a sale on the non K series you can save even more.

Any motherboard you would suggest with the non K cpu? And any thoughts on that case?

My suggestion is go to YouTube and watch hardwarecanucks reviews on cases, they have a number of different cases and their reviews are very good!

Any of the Bxx or Hxx chipset boards from Asus, Msi, Asrock will be fine.

Nobody mentioned the PSU yet? Wow. Well here it goes.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3hy8e
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($227.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Newegg)

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($67.50 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.48 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($259.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Rosewill ARMOR-EVO ATX Full Tower Case ($76.50 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($54.56 @ Amazon)

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.98 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($84.99 @ NCIX US)
Monitor: Dell S2240L 60Hz 21.5" Monitor ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1233.96
I changed you up to a Haswell and found a nice Z87 gigabyte board for it. Changed the PSU to something good that isn't liable to blow up with gaming uses. As for the case, I don't think you can get much better then that Rosewill I chose for the price.

I do have a few suggestions. the western digital 500gb is an ok hard drive but you can quadruple the storage for barely any more coin. the Seagate barracuda 2tb 7200rpm drive is like $85. if you want to keep in a certain budget the diablotek evo chassis at microcenter is a great midtower case on a budget. $39.99 and has 4 fans included and a bottom mount for a psu. is it kinda cheapish yes....is it perfect no....is it good for someone on an absolute budget absolutely.
