[Email/Epic Games] Unreal Engine 4 Available Now - Page 3

Most people missed that you ONLY have to pay $19.00 a month if you want monthly access to patches. You can unsubscribe and work in the offline mode for months, and resub only to get the latest patches, rinse repeat which is highly Indie friendly. EPIC clarified this several times to Indies that asked.

I'm devouring all the tutorials on UE4 now. I can likely complete my projects first version completely with Blueprints (Visual programming) as I re-learn C++ (going fast) as I already have been using C# for the last couple years.

I can't wait to show my progress.

There's a thread on the boards about an Unreal community sponsored version of Unreal Tournament. Epic was fine with it with some stipulations. They were ok with it being "In the spirit of Unreal Tournament" , however Epic has decreed that they do not want the community to infringe on their Unreal IP's and call it "Unreal Tournament 4" or use Unreal proprietary artwork, models or logo's in the community collaborated game effort. Makes sense as one day they may make a real UT4....maybe.

I haven't used an unreal kit since the UnrealEd that came with UT 2004 if I remember correctly. I'd like to get back in to it as a hobby like.

Is there any free versions of the latest (or near recent) engine, you can get to practice creating maps and run around them in an environment?

Maybe I could get back into this again and I have a friend it would be great to get into this too.

This is absolutely incredible. The price point is just perfect, and the engine is jaw dropping, honestly.

Wonder If I can pay $19 alone just to grab the software. I'm no developer, but Its certainly fun to be able to create an environment. Maybe even a small level.

Yes, you can do that! Just unsubscribe after you've downloaded the software smile.gif you can keep it forever but you wont have access to source code or new updates...

I look at it this way. Most Indies likely wont need the source code of the Engine to make modifications. Many will only download the already compiled version of the game engine. So once they subscribe once then, unsubscribe and work for months offline, they may be good to go. Also that first subscription gives users access to the Source Code initially as well. It's fully downloadable , so one would download it prior to unsubscribing.

  • Beginners to Indies - Can use Blueprints for visual programming for code interactions.
  • Medium to advanced programmers - Can use a mixture of Blueprints and C++
  • Fully advanced programmers  - Will use the full power of C++ and the Engines Source Code in C++ to make changes at a low level, such as a new Networking plug-in etc.

I'm just an indie and this is what has my focus now, I'm trying to get as much development in now prior to Watch Dogs... Productivity will go down.

My rig: With UE4 in the middle monitor.
