EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX - hits 80C - Page 4

The problem with the ACX cooler as compared to MSI gaming or ASUS's DC II is the shroud closes off half of the fins so heat dissipation takes a while longer. It helps if you have good exhaust in your case because of the heat build up it does but also the fan profiles on the ACX make it so its almost literally sync with the temp so even with no load it takes a while for it to cool down. Have experienced testing with DC II 780, 770 ACX, 780 ACX, 780 Classy. Now with the classified, a little bit better since it has another inch or so more pcb/fins but the regular ACX doesnt dissipate as fast. Also you have to take into consideration the ambient temperature. If you live in a cold area you will have no problems with temps and will remain in the low 70s on load but for higher temp areas you can see 80s as well as overclocks over that. Airflow in your case is also a big factor, good cool intake and good fast outtake.

if its doesnt go past that is fine, great!, but it doesnt mean a card on 80C is bad, thats nothing to worry about, a card can work fine up to 90C....

you guys are very picky and very concern about normal stuff... just becase everyone its claiming oh look
i got a card that doesnt past 65C that the best card on planets... thats just marketing...

i mean, dont get me wrong if a card manage 65-70C load again thats great... but it does not mean if you got that card up to 80C u dont need to be worry.

Hey. I just checked GPUZ after playing BF 4 and Crysis 3 and max temps is 79C . Then i check max fan speed that was 68% and next i check fan RPM and was 2200rpm. Its not too high temps like on that fan speed?

No those temps are fine, if you bring up afterburner and an overlay of the clocks you could probably seeing it boost at a higher clock, of course you could always limit it if you want based on power limit or temperature and majority of the time if the card gets too hot it will throttle itself down so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I dont know why my GPU CORE is just downclocking for a seconds and again going to 1100mhz even with temps like 74-75C. Why GPU CORE is downclocking even when i dont hit 80C.This is screen from GPUZ after Tomb Raider benchmark:

Anyone? Its power limit maybe? Temps are 74-75C and core are balansing between 1050-1100mhz. Its only in Tomb Raider benchmark.
On games like Crysis 3, and BF 4 core clock is always 1100mhz no matter what temp 70 or 79C.
WHY GPU IS CAPPED THEN? Weak psu or something with card? What is the reason? Its there not enough power?

Your card should not be that hot, unless you have major case air flow problems. I have the exact same card and I have topped out after overnight Folding@home on a 8018 0x15 unit (which makes the card run hottest in my experience so far) at 72c with 61% fan speed according to GPUz. This is unusually high ..

Far Cry3 I barely break 60c with 50% ish fan speeds. Ambient temps a little cooler then you at 18-22 c, but still your temps are bad, although they aren't going to damage your card and shouldn't throttle it.

Could be the TIM, I believe EVGA doesn't void warranty for removing the cooler, my old MSI Twin Frozr 7950 dropped quite a few degrees temp after replacing with Arctic MX4. I would first make sure you have good enough case airflow as people have stated already.

As for your down clocking in the benchmark, I don't know but I wouldn't be that worried myself try setting the temp target higher then 80c? I would first sort out your card airflow/TIM issue whichever it may be.

brother thats depens also your country and ambient temp.

True enough, I believe he said his ambient temps were 26c smile.gif

The ACX is not that much worse then the DCUII either.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/evga_geforce_gtx_780_sc_acx_review,8.html

Was trying to find a comparative between the two coolers on the same card, this is likely on an open bench but still,

'These tests have been performed with a 21 Degrees C room temperature. That is a seriously excellent temperature for a GPU like this'

Something is not right.

EDIT: My room temperature often gets up to 25c with the windows closed while folding/gaming temps are still no where near that bad.

The temps at 80c are O.K and will not immediately damage anything, however the cooler gets annoyingly loud after 60% although that is subjective. Also there is no overclocking headroom when you are already pushing the temp limits, unless you want to run the fans at 100% all the time.

EDIT : 2 http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4639/8/nvidia-geforce-gtx-780-asus-vs-evga-vs-inno3d-vs-msi-cooling-and-noise-levels

ACX 2c hotter then DCUII according to these guys.

Ok guys. Here is my case. Now you can tell . That high temps are because of that case, is too small or not? Or maybe something with card?
