To start with look at my rig, it is the epitome of high mid range/ low high end AMD and it plays every game i have ever thrown at it maxed out at at least 60 FPS (yes even C3) Plus it chews through productivity workloads just fine too. I just don't understand why people act like because you can spend a couple hundred more and run an intel based machine that will net you a whole whopping 6 more FPS (that you will most likely never notice on your most likely 60hz display) That AMD is all of a sudden doing a bad job and is not a viable choice even though it costs hundreds less. In a professional productivity environment where seconds equal dollars and electricity equals overhead then yes I would go with an intel set-up without question. However 99.99% of us are not using our gaming rigs for such a purpose, we are using them for gaming and when it comes down to gaming i see AMD's CPU offerings as excellent due to the being "fast enough" to do their job while saving the builder hundreds to increase more vital systems of their gaming machine such as GPU or SSD or KB/M.

I absolutely loved my fx6300 on the same mobo you are using paired with a 660ti. I even built a 2nd rig with the same cpu. However, I did not get the same experience as you seem to be getting when I went to multi GPU.

The main place I was seeing awful dips after moving to SLI was in BF4 64 man servers. It was dropping from 75fps to 45fps a lot. Even OC'ed to 5ghz but it still was there. Very playable. I am just sensitive to it. Like a jarring affect to me. The 4670k with a equivalently priced asus mobo never shows those dips. its much much more than 6fps difference in bf4. Most other games though there is really zero difference. Even skyrim ran fine to me on the FX.

The Athlon X4 wont bottleneck a mid to high end (single solution) card. The 760k is essentially a 6800k without the iGPU, and when I had my 6800k it had no issue pushing my r9-270x (midrange card), and it easily outclassed my friends Phenom II that was pushing his 7950 just fine (which I figure my 6800k would do just as well). Truth is most gamers are going to be running single card setups, with 1080p monitors and as long as the frames stay at or above 60fps, then the cpu is more than enough for the job. Heck, I know quite a few people who could not tell you the difference between 30+ fps and 60+fps and as long as there is no lag they are perfectly content.

Bottom line is that unless the game is seriously CPU bound, the Athlon X4 is a fantastic option as a sub $100 cpu that is capable of keeping mid to high end single solution gpu's fed for 1080p gaming.

Let me clarify. I can't justify anything higher end since I get solid 60FPS with max'd detail settings on my 1080p 60Hz monitor. Most gamers still play at my resolution and refresh rate. I bet it's well over 90%. By the time 4K monitors become mainstream (ie trailer park kids can afford one from walmart), there will be another sub $100 CPU that can push them.

I am really happy with it as well, it's a great bang for buck chip. I mean I get a small dip here and there when the poo hits the fan in a 64 man server just like anyone else I suppose. That said 99% of the time I'm bouncing off v-sync. It seems like the experiences people have with hardware is somewhat variable due to the way things are being coded now a days. This game works better with this vendor of cpu/gpu, this driver fixes this that driver improves that on systems using X gpu in SLI for this game while another driver addresses CFX for another game. It's not as cut and dry as we would like it to be lol, you know what I mean ?
Funny you mention skyrim lol, skyrim HATES my CF I had to put it in windowed and then it runs just fine ha !

I know that's why i did it after reading all the issues about skyrim/CF and realizing it was a game problem, nothing I could ever really fix without more work than its worth.

I mentioned skyrim because thats the one that always gets posted showing a i5 getting +40fps over a fx cpu. if your on a 60fps monitor either one can get over 60 easy.

That is true and skyrim isn't the only game where intel's superior IPC shows and advantage in pure bench frames (SC2,CIV5) However like damric stated, how many people in real world are actually pushing past 60hz and could even notice the difference? I'd wager a bet it's in the single digit percents. Don't get me wrong 120hz is obviously the future but by the time it is fully mainstream like 60hz is now there will be some other bang for buck cheap-o CPU perfectly capable of pushing 120 FPS while the ultra high end minority are gaming on 240hz and so the evolution will continue.

I cant wait for the days of 240Hz/4K being mainstream lol, bring it on !

This is a myth and has been proven so my a number of websites. Using a synthetic benchmark and look at pure GPU scores comparing an i7 4770K to an A10 6800K with a 7970 the difference in GPU score was less than a single percentage point. You have a number of sites showing that for a single high end video card even at resolutions of 1440 the difference in gaming experience with an APU over an i7 does not justify the cost.
