A counter point to AMD not being good for mid-high end - Page 4

Thief 4:

http://www.techspot.com/review/787-thief-benchmarks/page4.html

i3 spanks the 8350. Its pointless to buy FX even for theoretical future games, especially when some of them will be like the sloppy port above. Intel has a massive IPC advantage that even multithreaded won't be able to close. And as in the other thread, FX lacks consistency. Your FPS are all over the place. Intel doesn't have those dips. And finally, its not 8 cores, its 8 poorly designed modules, and a quad at best.

Thief 4 ?? I wasn't aware there was a 4th version seeing as the first released on Feb 24 2014...

Might want to take a look at this, obviously this is only a tiny snippet of more to come but it sure seems the tides are changing.

It is the 4th incarnation of Thief: Dark Project, Metal Age, Deadly Shadows, and Eidos's reboot.

AAAAND there exist AMD CPUs that can perform wonderfully on DX11 so that is not a valid reason to go with Intel over AMD. I don't know if that is what you were saying though.

First off that is one game. There are PLENTY of games where the 8350 performs better than an i5. So no, it doesn't spank it.

And here are some honest in depth reviews of those. Now if the 8350 is very close to the i5 in performance, then how can it be spanked by an i3?

See. There is no reason why AMD can't compete in any category.

frames in video games depend more on the GPU than the CPU anyways. As long as the CPU doesn't bottleneck the GPU then everything will work out.

Actually in some games when 2 cores are recognized some parts of the game engine are turned off to improve performance on those CPUs. Makes benchmarking them rather slanted.

THANK YOU!!!

99 times out of 100 your game can't run because your GPU isn't powerful enough, not because your CPU is crap. And since consoles are using AMD parts, AMD looks like a good investment now if I owned a mutual fund.

Maybe I should have started with that instead of getting too bogged down in the cores and how the developers will use them. AMD's stocks have taken a hit over the last 2 years however. From $8 to $4. Ouch. So maybe not...
