From that 4ghz baseline, it requires almost exactly 0.025V/100mhz (stable at every step) all the way up to 4.9ghz. 5.0ghz is the first step that requires just a little more than 0.025V to get to. If one were to chart the voltage requirements in this range a slanted "trough" would show up. The base of that trough would be somewhere around 4.5ghz for me, which should be doable at ~1.275-1.2875V. From 4-5ghz on this ladder, power dissipation at the chip nearly doubles under load.

Mine doesn't seem to be as friendly as yours before 5 Ghz as mine was calling for 1.41v stock. I did get it down to 1.36v @ 4.5 but any lower I get failures after about 20 minutes in P95. Around 5Ghz ours seem to be about the same vcore wise but temps get higher than I'd like only having a 212 Evo. Maybe I'll get some good water on it one of these days and tinker a little more thumb.gif

-On average, Haswell is about 10-15% faster than Sandy Bridge, clock for clock
-On average, Haswell overclocks about 10-15% worse than Sandy Bridge

Now as far as responding to OP's original post of why AMD is not good for mid-high end, consider that my 2.5 year old i7-2700K @ 5 GHz is faster than anything AMD has TODAY, overclocked or not. How can AMD even think about competing in the high-end market when their CPUs can't beat Intel hardware from almost 3 years ago?

Vs a 6300 yea both at 5.0ghz their perfomance is close still vs

a 8350 at 5.0ghz Stop dreaming wth.gif

But anyways amd is retiring from mid high end desktop oriented cpu

they are going to only sell apu i think

Here's another point for consideration:

Someone with a Nehalem setup (say a i7-920 OC'd to 4 GHz) still have a VERY decent CPU today, something that won't have any issues running even with high end GPUs. That CPU came out 5.5 years ago.

Same with Sandy Bridge. Originally released over 3 years ago, yet it still outperforms the best AMD has to offer today. Sandy Bridge has no problem driving high end multi-GPU setups today.

Are there ANY AMD CPUs from 5.5 years ago that wouldn't bottleneck even a single high end GPU these days? I don't think so.

So for those who went AMD, do you see yourselves sticking with the same CPU say 3-4 years from now? Or are you going to spend more money to upgrade CPUs (and probably motherboards) again when it becomes too slow to run a decent graphics card?

people do mining rigs with sempron 145 so there is no bottlenecl rolleyes.gif

And amd is not anymore in the high perfomance market since the 8120

a core 2 quad and extreme can compete with the i7 920

i personally run with 4 core my fx 6300 on a 64 player map bf4 maxxed out on my 7950

still run over 30-40 fps

Intel as more money than amd and they try to kill amd

All School or Company i seen use intel why?????

oh and btw My intel e8400 was high end back in 2009 and in 2011 was not even able to play bf3

So futureproof on cpu is crap there are too slow and in 2-3 year we already need a update

While my gts250 is a good gpu now and can run bf4

How "durable" a CPU is has very little to do with the company making it...

Obviously there's no bottleneck with mining as mining doesn't need any more CPU power than running an OS needs.
Quote:

Not really, at stock maybe but only because the 920 was clocked so low out of the box. And even then as a claim it's really questionable.

average fps probably yes. Also depends on the resolution.

They do not want to kill AMD, nor have they even remotely tried to be tough on AMD in recent years.

OEM relations.
Quote:

E8400 was never high end
And it definitely wasn't high end in 2009 with first gen i7s already out and hexa core i7s coming in 2010.

I have two i7 860s that I bought back in 2009. They're 5 years old now. MSRP back in those days was $294.

Take your BF3/BF4 example:

in BF4 to this day those 5 year old i7s at stock perform on par with the 2500K, or in some cases a bit better.

(i7 930 = i7 860 performance wise)

To this day that i7 is only trailing a 8350 in avg frames by 1% and in minimum frames by 12%. And you know what the greatest thing about those numbers is? That 5 year old i7 has around 45% overclocking headroom while the 8350 has 20-25%...

If that's not great value I do not know what is.

vs a 10k point with fx 9570 that is 4.7ghz turbo to 5.0 and i know the turbo is not often here of what i read so at 5.0ghz it even stronger sorry your i7 is dead

2 things: One if it was Cinebench 11.5 it is heavily biased against AMD therefore scores are always lower for AMD. Now Cinebench R15 seems to have dropped the ICC part of forcing different instruction sets (or at least that is what is being said) but the program is and always will be heavily optimized for Intel, as it should be, just how the cookie crumbles.

ok good i find it pretty strange to be that low.. i hit 6+ at 4.8 but the 920 7 seemed strange
