When the SDK becomes public then Nvidia and Intel can choose to apply themselves to it or no. And that is at no charge from AMD. Physix however requires a cost as a payment to Nvidia and therein lies the problem and the reasoning for their statement.

To me AMD are hypocrites for doing this.. Mantle is exclusive now and for a long time ahead, PhysX wasent that.

Hypocrites? Mantle is on beta stages with limited support and its not even working 100% correct. They dont have a sdk available mantle atm is just working. It lacks features etc etc etc. And you want it to support nvidia or intel gpus immediately? Mantle atm has a single abstraction layer which is only for gcn. That means even if mantle was available for nvidia they still would need an abstraction layer for kepler/maxwell. That means time

Nvidia just bought the only physics API. And they locked it down.Nothing wrong with that.If you talk about the software part of physx then there is havok too and bullets physics. But for gpu accelerated physics Physx is exclusive to nvidia only

Comparing Mantle with PhysX isn't fair, before you even take into account that they're both fundamentally completely different. One is a low level programming interface, the other is a software library. One that has been locked out from other vendors since day one.

I prefer NV hardware, but their corporate practices only damage gamers and the industry. That said, it's my belief that Mantle will be swallowed up, whether it be by lock-outs as in the past with DX on the Windows platform, or the exchange of money and resources, possibly integrating Mantle within DX12 within the next 12 to 18 months.

For this reason I don't think Mantle in its current name and format will release a public SDK, but AMD's intention to do so is definitely not a white lie. So no hypocrisy here, AMD has every right to optimise it's own home bake to it's own architecture before releasing it to the general public.

As much as I would like mantle for nvidia, wince lately I have been getting mostly their cards for benching and light gaming, I don't blame amd for keeping it for themselves.

Great news for AMD.

On the other hand it's great for us consumers when endorsements like this happens. It pushes Nvidia to get off ther butts and make the next advancement, usually trying to one up AMD.

I really can't imagine how anyone can see this as a bad thing or not worth doing, regardless of which "team" you are. The more people who adopt Mantle, the more likely Mantle or Mantle-like things will be available to both. And that's good for everyone.
