^That's better

Btw, the 3.9 turbo is only if you have ~1 core loaded. It sometimes runs that way with load on more cores like playing a game that loads 1.5 cores (one max, another 50%), but typically not if you're encoding etc. It's ~3.9 for one core, ~3.8 for two, 3.7 for 3-4 iirc

Does the xeon use the same stepping for its turbo? Or will it remain at 3.7 at most times? Or will it remain at 3.5ghz most of the time.

Not sure, wikipedia might be able to tell you. Turbo's for i5/i7 at least are listed on "i5 list" etc pages

Found it, it'll only do 3500mhz on all 4 cores. Still pretty decent.

We were talking about performance of the processors/motherboards, and possibly the price/performance of them.

The Xeon doesn't have a iGPU(which can be handy), and only turbos up to 3.5ghz on all four cores, but costs $60 less. It also cannot be overclocked.

The i7-4770K has a iGPU, turbos up to 3.7ghz on all four cores, but costs $60 more. It can also be overclocked, but requires a Z87 motherboard to do so.

The H87 motherboard looks like it's a better quality product, but makes the overclocking properties of the i7-4770K unusable. So if you didn't mind the 200mhz clock decrease then you could save $70 by using the Xeon+H87.

Although if you wanted the possibility to overclock sometime in the future(if you needed the performance boost one day, for whatever reason) then the Z87+i7-4770K might be a good idea. Although honestly, I don't like the look of that motherboard, and it's also $70 more. *edit* Also the Z87 motherboard could be fine for all I know.

In the end though, price/performance comes down to the buyer. Both are good options in my opinion, and currently I can't see any WIN/WIN, such as getting you more performance for less or equal/slightly increased price.

Hopefully I explained that correctly, because I'm awful at explaining things.

Yeah they do, I was originally going to go EVGA but I was trying to stay on budget.

So you're going with the more expensive dragon z87 motherboard then?

*edit* well, it only got $15 more expensive, and it is a pretty nice motherboard. So if you're willing to go a bit over the budget, and/or exclude the aftermarket heatsink for now.
