Am I really the only one thinking that these are great results, even if it's not what we would want on OCN (which would be improvements that would take our already highpowered rigs to mach-5)?
Raising the lowest common denominator is usually always good for very obvious reasons. thumb.gif

People compare a 8350 to a i7? We know the i7 has a better performance but who really buys a i7 just for gaming? The people that buy a 8350 dont have a large budget in my experience. The reason I brought a 4770K was for other uses (e.g. video editing), if I was just going to game I would of got a used 2500K/8350/6300.

People spend a extra money for a percentage gain, great example is the 290x vs 780ti. The 290x is way cheaper but the 780 ti is like avg 8% faster.

I can and could have bought an i7 and titan... However I don't enjoy wasting money. I spend wisely.

For gaming and development my 8320 is perfect, now Mantle makes it even better. I should have bought 16GB ram instead of 8GB though.

Ya AMD has lost my faith, they still over promise, and under deliver. They try to make themselves look like the savior of PC gaming. Kaveri was the last CPU ill ever buy from them. GPU's are still a possibility, but only because the performance is actually there despite their little white lies about Mantle.

Welp, that is if you focus on the 4770k - which really wasn't what I was focusing on at all (since alatar already posted a strong CPU-side scenario with a 4960x). I was looking at the gains on the fx-8350 and the fx-4170, which are very good.
(Especially the fx-4170 gains, even if it's with a entry/mid-range GPU @ 1080p.)
That there is what I meant by "raising the lowest common denominator". Dismissing these kind of results and what impact these results could potentially have on entry- and mid-range gaming would be foolish at this point.

It is more of a CPU test is all...they keep toting Mantle as a GPU asset, but according to the info we have so far it helps out the CPU more than anything else.

So this is more along the lines of testing a game on lowest settings with a highend GPU during CPU benches and comparing. You'll see things like one CPU getting 150fps and another getting 300fps and some people will say that it is meaningless, but those results would mean that, for that one game at least, one CPU is twice as powerful as the other.

However...that is just a bench. In the real world you won't be running the game on low or medium with this hardware. So in that regard it is a worthless test. Unless their goal was to sell more of their lower end hardware. Let's face it...AMD isn't having much problem getting people to buy their higher end stuff. The midrange and low end gear is where the money is at and if that hardware can get a performance boost from Mantle so that it can play Thief...well, there might be a lot more happy customers.
