Fan controller for 900D

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Looking to get a fan controller to control the following setup in a Corsair 900D:

6 x fans for push/pull on a radiator
3 x front fans
1 x exhaust fan

I guess a 3 or 4 channel controller would be enough because the 6 rad fans would need to be joined up. Can you have 6 fans on the one channel or do you need to split with 3 and 3?

Any suggestions on a decent controller?

Take a look at Lamptron controllers. If you want physical knobs, the FC5v3 is great.

I have the v2 in my 900D, and I'm running D5 pump, D5 pump, 7 rad fans and 6 case fans on its 4 channels.

Thanks, that looks pretty nice.
One question though, would hooking up 6 fans to one channel be overkill? Should be fine as long as they don't pull > 30watts in total right?
If running a few fans of the same channel how would the display behave? Which rpm is shown? Just assume all fans are running at the same speed I guess.
All fans would need PWM for the controller to uhm control them right? Meaning I'd need new case fans probably.

You should be able to link a whole lot more fans together on each channel than just 6. I'm running 7 Corsair SP120 High Performance fans on one channel with spare capacity to double it I think. Can't remember the power draw of the fans at full speed but I think it's around 2W

The rpm display is a bit tricky. I build my own fan connecting hub to string all the fans together. The rpm output signal from only one of the fans is fed back to the controller. If you connect all the rpm cables together on the controller it will go a bit haywire on the display. You don't have to make a fan hub/splitter cable as they can be bought for cheap to do the same thing. I can't get a link right to show an example

And you don't need PWM fans with this controller. It's voltage controlled so normal 3 pin fans will work. PWM fans need PWM specific controllers

Thanks, yeah I just seen that the controller take 3 pin connectors anyway.
So I would need one of these but the 3 pin version for the 6 fans on the rad, a 3 way one for the front fans and connect the exhaust directly to the controller so that the display will not get messed up.
Would using something like this do the trick also?
A 4 channel controller should then do me just fine.

Yeah that last connector block will even work for 3 pin fans. As far as I know the rpm pin going out from that block is only connected to one fan, so it will give you a clean output to display.

The splitter cables also do the same, the first fan is connected on all three pins and the others that split off only have pins for voltage and ground.

Glad I could help smile.gif
