270X clock speed fluctuating.

Thread Starter
I managed to get my 270X stable at 1200MHz and 1.210V, which I'm very pleased with, it now survives Unigine Valley and Furmark, however it will occasionally drop to 1142MHz for a second or two then go back up to 1200. Is that a sign I should further increase the voltage or perhaps lower the core clock, or is there a way to fix that? I'm using Sapphire Trixx.

Is the GPU usage also fluctuating at the same time?

It may be speedstepping the overclock down when it isn't needed.

What is your power control % set to? Normally when overclocking, it should be maxed out at 20%, which provides more stability.

It seems to vary regardless of load, I can reproduce it, but I can't determine what is causing it. It happens at all clock speeds above stock. 1150MHz will drop to 1094.4MHz, at 1140MHz it will drop to 1082MHz, at 1200MHz it will drop to 1142MHz, etc.

Lost Planet 2's DX11 benchmark stays constant.
Unigine Heaven has many drops.
Unigine Valley has a small number of drops.
Crysis 2 has infrequent drops.
Battlefield 3 stays constant.
Titanfall stays constant.
Furmark constantly drops and rarely stays at the custom clock speed.

My VDDC is at 1.210V, I also tried it at 1.225V with no effect, should I increase it further? I'm not sure what the safe limit for a 270X is. I'm using Sapphire Trixx but I could just as easily use Catalyst if you think that's better for the voltage regulation.

could be overheating vrms...

The core temperature is very modest, it never passes 51°C, and a 0.010V increase should not be enough to overheat the VRM.

Unigine valley makes my msi 270x fluctuate also.
some games and benchmarks have cut scenes that does not require a full load, so that could be causing the fluctuations. i know Valley, Heaven, and all 3DMarks do.

Is it in specific scenes? It usually happens to me around scene 16 in Valley, however it doesn't correlate with GPU load.

Getting drops in Crysis 3 as well, again independant of GPU load. Opinions? Should I try increasing the voltage beyond 1.220?

i think its that, i didnt see you mention anywhere that you have bumped your power target/control % it worked for me when i couldnt keep one of my cards fully clocked even on idle
