60hz IPS or 120hz/144hz LED for gaming purposes?

so, im having doubts if ever a 120 or 144hz would make a big difference when gaming. Well, i tend to play fast paced games most of the time like RTS games and FPS.
well i can say, the current rig i have is quite capable of running 120hz in the games i am playing, well i dont really play graphic intensive games that much like BF4. i play that on my ps4
I currently have the Asus MX239h IPS panel monitor, now im thinking of getting a BENQ XL2402T 120hz or the Asus VG248QE 144hz and is it good for PS4 too?

Would you guys recommend using a higher refresh rate monitor rather than IPS panels? Or maybe just wait for a cheap 4k if there is any that will come out in the near future?

any thoughts? ideas? suggestions you can give me?

If you play alot of FPS games, i would go for a 120hz+ monitor..
I got a BenQ XL2420T 120Hz and i am really happy i bought it.
But if you have the money and have time to wait then take a look at this http://www.overclock.net/t/1455299/asus-update-27-1440p-gsync-120hz-rog-monitor-at-ces

I don't have any experience with IPS monitors so cant give you an opinion on those, but the upgrade from 60hz to 120/144hz monitor was awesome!
I'll never go back to 60hz.

well if it does make a big difference when it comes to 60hz, maybe i could get it.
but what about the picture quality? i mean, ill be using it for developing games too, as well as use it for my ps4.
is it comparable to an IPS Screen?

$799? well thats maybe too much for me. i mean with that price i could buy an upgrade for my rig.

I have the BENQ XL2411T 120/144hz. Bought it after doing a lot of research into 120+ gaming and I would never go back. The difference between 60hz and 120/144hz is night and day to me. Even on desktop I can feel the smoothness.

While I can't speak to your system performance, or your particular requirements
my Mistress (in Sig) in combination with the BenqXL2420T has been an amazing upgrade for FPS especially.
Mine does 144,native-(bonus!)
Strobelight Beta by ToastyX is an app I found that allows toggle between rates & other settings.
This combo endlessly amazes with options galore.
Critically I suppose viewing angle issues, color accuracy and extraneous features may be off putting.
I do not have any experience or interest in 3d but mine has an Nvidia 3D label prominent & I believe it prob is cool...
Mine is a little old now(9 mos 24/7) no issues ever.
Thinking 290/290x(s) in my future & a new 4k 27" something model for me soon...(shh)
Good luck!

For fast paced games, 120/144 Hz displays are great...they're nice to have for quick response and much less blur. I run the Asus VG248QE and absolutely love it! Plus, since you're running an NVidia GPU, you can take advantage of the Lightboost hack (basically makes the back light strobe in sync with the refresh rate). With this, there is very, very little blur with moving objects on the screen. thumb.gif

When it comes to colour accuracy (you mention game development above), it won't be ideal with either of these displays. There are ICC profiles out there that you can load to get the colours reasonably close to accurate (or as close as possible with the hardware involved). But it's still going to be a TN panel, so there's only so much calibration can do and you're viewing angles won't be nearly as good as with an IPS display. TBH 120/144 Hz displays and IPS displays are like comparing apples and oranges...they simply target different people.
