Games/System show that I have wrong GPU

Now this is me being more curious then anything else because i dint believe it affects my oerformance but heres the story/back story. About a year ago my XFX 5970 died on me so I sent it into XFX for RMA and they sent me a 7970 then I bought a 2nd one. When I first installed them I did a full driver dive and everything but it still showed me having one 5970 in my system I didnt think much of it since my oerformance was still good but now Im just curious why its happening. It shows I have a "5900 Series" card when you change video settings in games where it tells you what GPU you have and it was doing it for a bit in my AMD drivers suits. Any insight?

I read a few places about amd driver cleaner having issues clearing older drivers. I would try a complete driver wipe again and reinstall see if its help and go from there

what does gpuz show as being installed?

either there's something still lingering from the previous driver install, or something is up in the windows registry

if you try installing a brand new game (eg, something free to play from steam) and it picks up the correct cards, then it would suggest registry

Not to long ago I installed Rome II and it still shows "5900 Series" GPU.
