[Engadget] Intel flaunts 8-core Extreme Edition Haswell with support for DDR4 memory

Quote:
The 4th-gen Core-i7 Extreme Edition CPU, codenamed "Devil's Canyon," will feature eight unlocked cores and 16 threads, trumping the last model's six cores. It'll also support the latest DDR4 memory standard, which brings much higher transfer speeds and lower power drain than DDR3. Along with a better thermal interface, all that will enable "significant" overclocking and performance enhancements, according to Intel.

Haven't seen this posted (I may be wrong)

Mother of God. Here to hoping they release some really nice boards to go along with it.

Normal $1000 price tag, of course, but I wonder if the 8-core will be exclusive to the Extreme Edition? Will Peasant Editions make due with the 6/12 arrangement like usual? Or do we get a nice slice of pie as well?

Devil's Canyon. Wonder if that can be taken into a philosophical way meaning it'll have a high overclock cliff before falling off? biggrin.gif

There has been conflicting reports of what "devils canyon" refers to. It could either be Haswell refresh or Haswell-E. Different articles are saying different things.

And to be fair (again tongue.gif ) the price difference is there for a very good reason.

Anyway, there's a good chance that we'll also see a $550-$800 K version of the 8-core.
