Because AMD likes to count both CPU cores and iGPU cores as the same cores, when they don't work that way. It's barely correct, and totally marketing spin.

its something to do with 4 cores being "logical" and there only being 4 actual "physical" cores, In a sense, its hyperthreading, but they are effectively used as cpu cores.
I can't find where I was reading about it and had the specifics. >.<<br />

Madi is right about the New APUs, they are "12 core" cpus but only 4 for the CPU and 8 for the igpu, from what I've been told.

Mmm, hopefully will jump on this 8c. Can definately make use of the cores rendering for work and it'll only be better supported in the future. So here's hoping I can grab this and maybe some maxwell cards to go with it ^^

Well geez, my next system might have to be an Intel system...my first since, ummmm...my Pentium w/MMX. Unless I could build a dual CPU Opteron system w/16 total cores for less. rolleyes.gif

Here's to hoping the 5930K is packing 8-cores, 16-threads all unlocked as well. Still rocking the old 3930K, I'm ready for an 8-core but doubt I'll ever be ready to spend $1K on a single computer part again unless it's one beast monitor. Titan kind of ruined that one. tongue.gif

Would love a $600 8-core and would pretty much be an insta-buy for me. I keep thinking one of these days my 3930K is going to get tired and not want to play Battlefield at 4.8 GHz anymore, but it seems to still be going strong. Anyways, the day we see a $600 unlocked 8-core is the day my 3930K replaces the 3770K in the backup rig and my gamer gets an all-new platform. biggrin.gif

I really hope the non-extreme 5930k is the 8-core. Really looking to upgrade to it to reduce program compilation times.

Good question. Perhaps with a BIOS update as with Z68/Ivy? Wouldn't surprise me at all though if the answer was "No".

Oh dear this year will probably be my most expensive in my lifetime unless i win the lotto :/

Just hope the Asus GENE x99 will be available right away.

Looking at close to 3k in £

Not sure if wallet is ready :/

O.o

Then again i can half that get a new PC from old intel ivy extremes that will last me 2 years at least i think and by that time we may have intel 12 cores on the horizon.
