Every single DX iteration, both big and small, was released with the intent of reducing resource overhead. The trend of DirectX development has always been to reduce overhead (improve efficiency in other words), expand feature set, and improve usability. Discussing ways to reduce overhead is nothing but fluff to make it sound like this has been in the pipeline all along. Never mind the fact that just some time ago MS was dropping hints that they were not going to focus very much on developing DX after the DX11 iterations. And seeing as MS is targeting 2015 for actual product integration, I highly doubt they started actual work any time before 2013.

I think the forza demo would have been more interesting were they running it on a snapdragon instead of a $1000 titan black

In talks was the subject:reduce overhead. And they trieed with DC and command lists. They didint achieved that. Because you talk about reducing overhead doesnt mean that dx12 exist as an idea 4 years now. They tried patching dx8 a lot of times until dx11.2 and then just start a new API.Do you understand that this API will come in 2 years?

Mantle isn't out yet either, it's basically in the same phase as the "early access" that MS mentioned for DX12. Mantle should see a beta SDK released next month. DX12 will see a "preview" release later this year... Targeting 2015 doesn't mean that support wont be patched in for other games earlier than that. Some devs obviously have access already. Forza running on DX12 and all that. As I said, we will already see some sort of a release of the API later this year, with some devs having access much earlier than that.

Also I don't quite see how my post is speculation. AMD has known for ages that this is coming. The talk was about "resource" overhead.

AMD knowing all this info way before they made any of their mantle presentations etc. means:
-Similar features were already coming from MS and AMD was fully aware
-AMD was also aware that Mantle would never be adopted by intel or Nvidia, despite what the power point slides said.

If my post was speculation then suggesting that DX12 and mantle being developed at the same time isn't a coincidence is another level of speculation entirely.

True. Knowing what we do now, this makes Mantle look like a quick cash grab for their Hawaii series/BF4 launch.

Let me mention it again.... Didn't Dice go to AMD with the idea?

If you actually believe that a company that deal with 2 consoles developing and pc segment spent all this R&d and time just for a quick cash grab for bf4 launch then i dont know what are you thinking. There are way better ways to get easy money than developing a low level API for pc
