Best laptop to get with a $3000 budget - Page 3

I know you want a high resolution display, but other than the Razer Blade 14 with the 870m there really aren't any other options in the thin and light laptop category with high resolution screens. Also I would be wary of Razor's build quality based on their other products. I would recommend the GS70 Stealth Pro that would be out in the next couple of weeks. It only has a 1080p screen but it has the same specs aside from the storage which the MSI gives you more and the MSI gives you a bigger screen size.

Just goes to show you should take a look at the resell value of "gamer " laptops, it actually irritates me sometimes lol but it is what it is

I have owned several gaming laptops and will never buy one again. Maybe they dont crash super hard. Probably being not a lot of variation in hardware so you have use them till new hardware is released. And then you can only max games for maybe a year. Im just saying if you have 3000$ dont buy a "gaming" laptop. 3000$ laptop is a marked up desktop anyway. Reason I say that is because your going go need a desk to play on it unless you don't care about burning your legs and you can play with out having charger plugged in for maybe 2 hours. Lol

Maybe some people already have a beastly desktop and they want to get a "Gaming" laptop for traveling. If you looked at his Sig Rig, he already has a pretty beastly PC.

I think you could get pretty much any laptop you wanted for $3k. Honestly, its hard to go against the Macbook Pro hardware-wise if you can deal with the OS. As far as Windows lappy's, I personally really love the Acer Aspire S7 but its no where near $3k....

Just means you aren't the target audience for a "gaming" laptop to begin with.

Also their is plenty of potential upgrade for laptops out there as long as you stick with models with the standards set out by the industry.

The point of using a "gaming" laptop isn't to burn out your legs, as no one would bother with this. The point is to have a few key elements.
  • Power
  • Mobility
  • Efficiency

I take my laptop everywhere I go as I usually have a need for it. Am I using a desk or some other form of hard top setting? Sure. I don't see it as an efficient use of my time to lug around a tower, keyboard, mouse, cables, monitor, headphones/set. Then re hook up everything in another setting.

Also when your laptop cant "max" games anymore take a look at ebay, there are still plenty of people spending way too much on these systems. You simply sell your "old" laptop and use that money towards a new machine. This would be almost identical to how people switch out EOL GPU's for new series GPU's.

Just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean it doesn't work for others.

As for the OP, he can probably tone down the budget by a grand and still have sufficient system for mobile needs since he already has a desktop, unless he's ditching it?

Personally loved my alienware and its served me well the last couple of years. I could slap another gpu and a faster processor in the thing and I could be good for another couple years, but I think its time for a new toy that is also portable. tongue.gif
