If so removing all the PCI slots will improve airflow of GPU cooler exhaust.

I use file folders to build ducts with. Measure out, cut fold, and tape / glue together. Than use rattle can color of your choice to paint. Usually build one to get everything correct, than measure it to make a good one. wink.gif

Yep! That is my current build as of last night... shes my best work yet... almost!

I love the idea! If I decide to take this on myself as my own project baby, I would do that in a heart-beat to get the template right for the metal to be cut... that is the unfortunate side... I need the strength of plastic/metal.

I want to mount a second fan on the duct on the inside, to make sure the fresh air is dispersed right where I want it.

Just as I mentioned... I need to make sure it is metal, or hard plastic or something, so I can mount a second fan to it.

If you use a good fan you don't need a second fan.
Ducting will focus the air to where you want it better than a fan on end of duct. Fans do not blow air in a nice cylinder like pattern.

I am familiar with fan characteristics, and how they flow in a wide cone... however that smoke test video was very interesting to watch!

I would go with one of the circular ducts... but I want to mount my SSD's to the sides of the duct as well, depending on size, to clean up the look, and to remove the need for a hard-drive cage (3.5s will move to a hot-swap bay).

As to what you were mentioning, you think my card(s) would stay cooler with a single fan, than having a fan at the entrance AND exit of the duct?

I think it's very possible. Duct directing air to GPU fans means no mixing of heated air into it.
What video cards do you have? Are they Reference cards?

Air is a fickled witch. Many times she has done things that were not predicted. Although after it happens the reason is usually easy enough to figure out. wink.gif

Often it takes testing a few different combinations to get the best results.

I am currently running one EVGA GTX 780 Classified. I plan to run 3, maybe 4 by the time this rig is "done".

Very hard to cool a 2x slot card when there's another card in next slot. wink.gif
Will need quite a few CFM to supply eachpair of 92mm fans too.

have you considered moving the SSD's into the 5.25 drive bay? Using something like this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OJFASY/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (which would also be easily attached to the side of the 5.25 bay (if there is room) using velcro or some screws?

get rid of the bottom drive bay altogether and mount a good 140 there? and in the middle bay area also?

im surprised that no has said any about using an air penetrator fan silverstone. why build a ducting when you can have the fan direct the air for you?
this demo is using the 120mm(ap121) but they have a 140mm fan(ap141) too.
but you could also make a ducting out this: https://www.estreetplastics.com/Acrylic_Tube_s/45.htm if you want.
or
buy a hand full of really cheap 140mm fans, gut'em out and glue them together.

as for mounting you SSD you can put it anywhere using dual sided tape or Velcro

btw which case is is that?

In a perfect environment.. the Penetrators do much better about keeping airflow together. The inside of a case is not a perfect environment... there is turbulence and obstructions, and it doesn't take much to disrupt that fan's air shape... although yes, they will do better than most other fans. But they will not do better than ducts... where the airflow cannot be disrupted until it is out of the duct, and by then it is where it needs to be already.
