Isn't leaving a jug of water for a couple of days outside will evaporate the water?
Rain water is definitely not pure water, if I remember correctly the whole reason why it rains is that the water vapor condenses onto particles of dust and dirt in the air and forms clouds. Leaving it outside wouldn't really do anything for you, it would remove things like chlorine over time though if it was in the sun.

If distilled water is really expensive in the UK This product might be a worthwhile investment. I have a much older version from a different company that I bought to use so I wouldn't need to keep buying water for my aquairum. It worked really well and pretty fast, build quality was really nice as well, it might be worth looking into and if you go through lots of distilled water (computer, aquarium, ironing, drinking water) you might make up the money and start saving relative quickly.

i have something similar to that i bought for sports training, connects right to my faucet and makes the cleanest damn water ive ever drank. and it has a specific filter to remove every major impurity, thus no more buying distilled water.

Don't forget that the rain water can contain H2SO4 from the air polution that will corrode all your loop. You are be to A) buy distilled water, B) Buy premix coolant or C) Make your own distilled water.

That is what I highly recommend.

I wouldn't see a reason to chance having your loop corrode when 1 gal of distilled from a store is less than $2 in most places.

Drinking distilled water is not a great idea, at least not for more than very short periods of time.

You'd really want to put rain water into your loop? A distilled jug of water costs .99 cents in the states.

When I was in the UK a couple years ago I bought it from these guys

http://www.thedistilledwatercompany.com

Its about 2 gbp per liter so way more than the US but not stupidly expensive. Or you can get deionized water much cheaper which i used in 2 loops for 2 years with no problems.

I am told that the reason for the cost is that they regulate it as a medical product though i dont know for sure. I am glad I dont live there anymore though!
