Drinking distilled water won't hurt you. Probably doesn't have much of anything in the way of health benefits relative to clean tap water, but the idea that you can be harmed by it is a myth.

Sounds plausible.

The quality of consumer distilled water available in the US can vary enormously and it's not unheard of to get batches that are dirty enough to defeat the purpose. If you are really concerned about building a loop that will nearly never need flushing/cleaning, medical grade water is probably not a bad idea.

Not in the UK.

You will be lucky to find distilled cheaper than DI.

I can pick a 2.5 litre Bottle of DI for £1.50, distilled costs around £1.50 a litre.

Yeah, Halfords sells battery top up water (DI) fairly cheaply, £2.99 for 5L. This is fine for your loop.

I did buy some Mayhems ultra pure once on an order that had free shipping, I have also found distilled water at a pharmacy, although they had to order it in for me. It can be fairly hard to find in the UK, unless you go online and pay for shipping.

Distilled is £1.65 for a litre bottle and £3.75 for a 5 litre bottle (£0.75 per litre) with free next day delivery at the link I gave earlier.

Hopefully it doesn't, after I filled my loop, I was really thirsty and the distilled water was just laying next to me... So I drank it D:

That's a good question. It's definitely not just a UK thing though. Distilled water seems to be very hard to find in many if not most places around the globe even though it can be bought locally for cheap all throughout the US.

I've seen many posts here on OCN from people in various parts of Europe, Australia/New Zealand, South Africa, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, etc where distilled is reportedly very hard to find &/or very expensive comparatively and deionized water is usually cheap and widely available instead. There's even a post somewhere on here from someone showing images of one popular brand in Australia that's sold as "Distilled Water" on the label where in fine print on the back label it explains that's just the company's brand/trademark name for that product and that it is actually deionized water instead.

Honestly though there is zero practical difference with regards to watercooling between Distilled or Deionized. Either or works just fine.
