Tired of r9 290/780 too powerful for 1080P

Thread Starter
I'm seeing this in almost every thread. People claiming that high-end gpu (R9 290/290x and GTX 780/780ti) is overkill for 1080P resolution. This is total bull. These gpu are TOTALLY fitted for 1080p. Correct me if i'm wrong but you totally need a gpu like this in order to play crysis, battlefield, ... with ultra resolution and MSAA/TSAA anti-aliasing. You also get a card which will be able to run game at maximum setting longer than a mid-range gpu.

Sorry, I had to express it. Anyone else feeling this way?

Yeap I agree. I've had my 780 freeze on a game when alot of stuff is going on. So unless my settings and or setup are wrong then the one card couldnt keep up.

of course it''s good for 1080p. The benefits of having a 290 and 780 is that your minimum FPS usually always stay above 60 FPS.

Anyone saying that 290 is overkill doesn't know what he is talking about. In crysis 3 i think i only get 42 FPS at 1080p so it is not overkill.

also if you have a 120hz monitor you might even need 2x R9 290 for certain games to get over 120 FPS

I agree fully. Lesser cards might be more then enough for your average gamer but that does most certainly not make the 290x / 780 Ti "overkill" for 1080p. Especially now that there are deferred rendering engines where SSAA is the only viable option for real AA (opposed to shader AA like FXAA).
